Xiao Ao Jiang Hu 2017: Official Stills

I think I promised an update and possibly the last one regarding this production so finally back with this. According to the above poster, they should be airing on February 26. (Go here to follow their official Weibo page.)

Ding Guan Sen (丁冠森) as Ling Hu Chong (令狐沖).

Xue Hao Jing (薛昊婧) as Ren Ying Ying (任盈盈).

Chen Xun ((陈讯) as Ling Ping Zhi (林平之).

Liu Jia Tong (刘珈彤) is actually Lan Feng Huang (藍鳳凰), not Yang Lian Ting (楊蓮亭) like I was led to believe. So I will hold my judgment for now and wait for further details.

Ding Yu Xi (丁禹兮) as Dong Fang Bu Bai (東方不敗).

Jiang Zhao Jun (姜卓君) as Yi Lin (儀琳).

They only released these stills so far. We’ll have to wait for the rest of the stills to release. But now I’m curious if some of the other rumors were false. I’m crossing my fingers, lol. Just because…

Anyway, click here for the trailer.

Xiao Ao Jiang Hu 2017: Cast Update

Yes, I’m back with another update since it’s important to straighten out a few things. I know, I’m behind again but I just want to make sure before posting it up. (Special thanks to this page and this article for clearing things up a bit.) I made some mistakes last time.

First things first, Ding Guan Sen is still Ling Hu Chong (令狐沖) at this point, Ren Ying Ying (任盈盈) is actually going to be portrayed by Xue Hao Jing (薛昊婧).

Lin Ping Zhi is indeed Chen Xun (陈讯).

Jiang Zi Xin (姜梓新) is Yue Ling San (岳靈珊).

Li Hao Han (李昊翰) will be Yue Bu Qun (岳不群).

Zheng Hao (郑昊) is Zuo Leng Shan (左冷禪).

Jiang Hao Yan (姜浩严) will be Liu Zheng Feng (劉正風). Don’t be alarmed by the effects, lol. He posted the picture himself, lol.

Ding Yu Xi (丁禹兮) is Dong Fang Bu Bai (東方不敗). There’s the red theme again, but I’ll just let it slide for now.

Tan Qun (谭群) is Lu Zhu Weng (綠竹翁). The little girl he’s carrying is Little Ren Ying Ying portrayed by Zhou Yi Lin (周奕琳).

Ji Dong Ran (季东燃) will be Tian Bo Guang (田伯光).

Liu Jia Tong is still in as a cast member but she will be portraying Yang Lian Ting (楊蓮亭). YUP! Ding ding ding! We found a reason for me to leave, right?

Jiang Zhuo Jun (姜卓君) is Yi Lin (儀琳).

Lu De Liang (吕德亮) is Monk Bu Jie (不戒). He is Yi Lin’s father.

Ryu Kohata (木幡龙) will be Yu Cang Hai (余滄海).

Of course, some of the pictures do not reflect the outfits that they’re wearing in the drama. I was just fishing around for pictures. But got tired so didn’t want to go into it too much in case the cast change or whatever else. I heard some other not so great details that could be changed SO will hold back for now. But be warned that my next update might be my last one. It will all depend on detail confirmations so I will wait a little to make sure that’s what it is going to be before just quitting altogether. Because seriously, I could use that time to watch Jackie Lui’s version, lol.

Xiao Ao Jiang Hu 2017 Adaptation

Yes, it’s happening! I was looking around and thought it was a gag, but found some decent sources to verify it. I actually found out via Yuan Shan Shan’s Vietnamese Fanpage that they were doing another one. When I went out to search, realized they just started, sorta, so probably not much news yet. But there were like 2 or 3 actual articles highlighting the project. (Click here for one of them.) They’re planning to use fresh faces for this new adaptation.

Ding Guan Sen (丁冠森) will portray Ling Hu Chong.

Liu Jia Tong (刘珈彤) will be Ren Ying Ying.

From someone’s post, this guy would be Lin Ping Zhi (林平之). Not sure.

You might be wondering if I’m nuts in following this one since: 1) I haven’t finished the 2012 version yet, 2) I complained up and down about the last one, and 3) why bother? But guess what? Here are reasons why I’m sticking around to see what’s up for this one:

  1. The outfits are tamed. People who are so used to seeing glossy outfits are probably disappointed but these are considered the right tone for traditional wuxia outfits.
  2. Dong Fang Bu Bai is a guy. YES, it is important.
  3. 30 episodes. They could somehow extend since changes are inevitable, but I’ll stay hopeful for now.
  4. If you think it’s too early to have another adaptation, think 2003 when they did HSDS and then 2009 brought forth another adaptation.

So for now, I’m waiting. If they as much as say they change script and want to go the bizarre route like some other ones, I’m out. Serious. So I wouldn’t complain up and down like the other version. What would qualify as bizarre–since I don’t rate like others? If they cut Qu Fei Yan (曲非煙) out, I’m out. She was a brief character in the novel BUT played an essential role to the whole story. She was also my favorite character in there so yes, that would be the tipping scale component for me.
