How was it for me? I felt like I wasted the last fifteen weeks for nothing. I’m not saying that it’s bad. But I’m saying that there are several factors that have ruined it. The ending is always the most important part to convince us so I think it has to be really, really strong. It’s hard to do and it can’t all be perfect to everyone’s satisfaction, but it has to at least make sense. In some areas, it did make sense. But in others, I just felt so infuriated that it was like all was wasted.
First off, they have a great team with the special team. Why not focus more on it?
Instead, we were forced to watch Zi Hong and Miao Miao’s constant banter and their on and off relationship. Okay, I got it that they were the main couple, but it was too overused with their fights and then later they were so inactive in the final moments of the series that they could be easily forgotten if they weren’t needed to persuade Dong Han and Zi Yan to let go. Their moments were mostly episode fillers so we could wait for more developments of the main plot to unveil itself.
What was the most infuriating thing about the ending? Yang Yong Zhao got away. Seriously? He was the mastermind of the Returning Home Project, and I swear, I always thought that the mastermind was the guiltiest one. Even if Dong Han and Zi Yan carried out the later parts of the plan, they were misled by him to hate and to continue on. How could he get the free ticket out just because he was Chief Zheng’s senior and because he was Miao Miao’s grandfather? I don’t care how old he was, he was still guilty. If the others were going down, he had to go down as well. To think that Miao Miao was soooo into finding her childhood friends and in trying to protect people closer to her, I felt it strange that she accepted that Zi Yan went to prison and her grandfather didn’t. Not to mention how she fought so much with the police just because Zi Hong was in confinement twice in the past yet didn’t do anything for Zi Yan? Okay, so I got it that priorities with her and some others in here were seriously messed up. But what about Chen Jie? Chen Jie letting it go as well was somewhat unbelievable for me. Seriously? I know Chen Jie had calmed down since his last aggression with targeting Dong Han the first few episodes while trying to figure out who the mole was. Yet I don’t think that he would be the type to let it go so easily and telling Ah Gang and Xiao He so lightly that their boss told them to forget about it. He put his own brother in prison! How could he let a little connection get in the way? Just because Yang Yong Zhao was their advisor and was one of the most respectable cops in the good old days? To think that Chief Zheng was so strongly vouching to seek out the truth and do what was right, he sure took the cowardly path and brushed things under the rugs once again, like some people in here. I was really disappointed in him.
Yong Mei’s sole existence was for others to protect her. Then it changed to how she got a bigger role in the turn of events because she was carrying Dong Han’s baby. That meant she was the one responsible for breaking the whole hatred cycle between all parties, at last, uniting some families together. Aside from that, I swear I couldn’t even sympathize with her or anything. I’m not trying to pick on her, but the plot had led me to think so. The point that her pregnancy didn’t make sense made it less convincing too. I got why the writers wanted it to go that way since I already stated above with how it brought the families together. But it didn’t make sense. Dong Han was avoiding her like the plague previously. If it was the hospital scene, it was too unconvincing. I don’t even think he was well enough to do anything. (Sorry, but the writers led us there–like Percy had pointed out to me, so I don’t feel bad for going “there.”) If it was after they got out of the hospital, then I would understand. I think there were some scenes that got cut, but it was in one of the BTS regarding Dong Han and Yong Mei’s scenes. That might have explained it. Yet what was the point of making Yong Mei involved with Dong Han aside from just making peace with the other side? Even if Dong Han was revenge-driven and had gone insane with his tactic, and went into a killing spree, but we–as the audience–couldn’t help but feel really bad for him since he lost his whole family after all. Making him betray Zi Yan was the worst.
Who did Dong Han love–Zi Yan or Yong Mei? Many had asked this question on The New World Facebook page. Pan Bo Xi had posted a picture of Dong Han and Zi Yan as the final moments of the drama were airing. When he was asked, he had said whichever picture he posted, that was the answer. (Go here.) During the flashback of their face-off scene, Dong Han had told Zi Yan that their relationship had never changed. That was the obvious answer. Even if he had cared enough for Yong Mei, but with his words, it was mostly because of the baby (and possibly guilt from using her).
What was the point of surrounding the events on Zhang Guo Tang since the beginning and making a mountain out of it all? I swear it was another wasted route. Well, they wanted to create suspense and lead us astray, but after we found out it was only an accident, it seemed like Zhang Guo Tang’s existence was just there to fill time. Yet I felt if he was the final bad guy, it would have cranked up the hype even more. Because seriously? Although lots of things had happened after Zhang Guo Tang died, it seemed to be recycled and anti-climatic, to say the least. Like how Zi Hong already found out that Zhang Guo Tang said it being an accident. Yet they rehashed that again AND he (Zi Hong) didn’t just say it out to the others and try to convince from there? Yeah, Dong Han and Yang Yong Zhao were going wacko already so there was no talking to them. But I felt the last bits–even with the plot finally revealing Zi Yan as Xiao Cao, the details rehashed again. It was like, hello, we already know that. Could someone show some more proofs instead of crying out the innocent card and saying it was an accident? Yeah, I understand it was an accident because things didn’t turn out the way they thought it would so that was why it was called an accident. I got it. But I hated that they kept crying out their innocence when it was obvious nothing would come out good with the location along with the weather condition of that day. They wouldn’t know for sure if it would rain. But the curve and all? Just a little maneuver and an accident could occur. I don’t care how much they regretted it. And it didn’t matter if Project Jing Hai wasn’t what the others thought it to be. It was just a bunch of excuses to shrug off responsibilities. If they had said: “We tried, but we messed up”, it was easier to swallow. Instead, it was about “We’re innocent, we didn’t know that would happen” type of thing. The other reason for making Zhang Guo Tang the main villain works better? I seriously think he was the other person, aside from Dong Han, who actually helped move the plot forward. Or we would all be in a limbo of forever going through Zi Hong and Miao Miao’s banter and makeup scenes.
Jia Yuan’s death was really for nothing. Seriously? This was the other reason why I hated the ending. Or more like how Yang Yong Zhao got away with it. Although Jia Yuan sacrificed herself because she didn’t want to be used as a pawn for Zhang Guo Tang to put pressure on Zi Hong, it all had to do with Yang Yong Zhao’s grand plan. He was the one who called Zhang Guo Tang and got Zhang Guo Tang to come back. He couldn’t predict Zhang Guo Tang’s moves or didn’t care. He only wanted to execute his plan, so when it went haywire and Zhang Guo Tang was on the loose, running his own agenda, other people got hurt. One of the most innocent people in this matter was Jia Yuan. Her luck was seriously terrible. Her father incurred so much debt that she had to deal with it and even had to resort to being a call girl to pay off the debts, which she had borrowed from Hua Jie’s place to pay off the other ones first before getting rid of this one. She had to protect her brother so that was the only way for her, or at least she thought of it as that way. She didn’t paint herself as the victim or the pitiful one yet was pitied by others, including the audience. She said many times, especially to Zi Hong and later to Jiang Jian Ming, that she wanted to solve her problems her own way. She didn’t cling to anyone for help–or didn’t want to if it wasn’t necessary. She was also very brave, having endured so much already and having to protect her brother (as said before). In the end, what happened? Although it was her choice to sacrifice, I felt like her final moments were just a little crying from some parties and then that was it. She was forgotten away, it seemed like no one cared to seek justice for her anymore. They had other things to do, so they just wanted to brush her off. I’m not saying once a close one dies, we have to always be morbid. We still have to move on with our lives, but I felt Jia Yuan’s death was like it just happened and forgotten so quickly. Things happening made it hard to just focus on mourning for her, but I had a feeling like even Zi Hong no longer cared. That suck. Her brother didn’t know so it wouldn’t count. But I would expect more than five to ten minutes of crying.
Was it Zi Hong’s mother’s fault that the accident of twenty years ago happened? Well, I’m not trying to blame the poor old woman here, but Zi Hong said it himself in episode 15 that it could be an accident or not, because of how he and his mother might be the target of the “warning.” It might as well be so, but those other two families were seriously unlucky. Moral of the story: Stay away from married men! I don’t care how talented they are or like how it seemed that their married life didn’t look too happy or whatever else. They chose it. Don’t justify their actions or yours if you wanted to step toward that path. (And this was the other reason why I hated that Dong Han’s story sort of sounded like Jiang Jian Ming’s too. Not married but it made it similar to the triangle and all. I don’t care if Yong Mei threw herself in front of him, he could say “no” or stop her. So yeah, I’m not going to blame her only just because of my biases, I’m blaming his lack of self-control too.)
Who were the true heroes? Many might think I’m crazy by now. I did not put them in just because they’re my favorite couple. However, I think that if they hadn’t done what they did–minus Dong Han going on a crazy killing spree, no one would know. Everything regarding the accident and the other matters kept getting brushed under the rug. If they hadn’t created some commotion, the others would just plain continue to carry on with their lives, thinking they did right. Even if two wrong doesn’t make a right or whatever it is often splashed around, in this case, they got through. Even if it was because Yong Mei’s connection that forced her father to take some actions, it was still something. Then talking about them, it brought up another sense of frustration upon me again, because of how Yang Yong Zhao had involved both Dong Han and Zi Yan into the plot but never included Zi Hong or Miao Miao. Well, not until recently, but that had failed. Of course, it was already obvious that he wanted to keep Miao Miao out of it–as he had said before. Yet it meant that he was all right with using Dong Han and Zi Yan as tools to forgo his plans. His pitiful talks indicated that he cared for them, but to me, it seemed so fake. And obviously, Miao Miao was his granddaughter, so how could she be involved, right?
If the series is cut back to eight episodes, I think it would be a lot better and more enduring, even with the current ending–more or less. Just cut out some unnecessary bantering and some rehashed of information. I didn’t need fifteen episodes to tell me it was all because of some stupid misunderstanding. Lives were lost, people were hurt. How could the ones who were victims end up paying for it while the others who had–even if unintentionally–caused the pain lived so freely? (It didn’t count that Mrs. Jiang finally confessed, it was too late.) I didn’t even know why there were some details that were added if the Jiang weren’t that guilty about the whole matter, like how they paid Zhang Guo Tang off and didn’t tell Chief Zheng or the other police officers about it. Well, Zhang Guo Tang was crazy, but the constant hiding stuff from the others made it harder for them to move forward with their investigation or knowing what to expect.
And lastly, I don’t know why I need to justify myself anymore. But I guess I will have to do it or I’ll be facing a lot of wraths (even if invisible). I will say that I pick on characters in here throughout my review/summaries, but it’s seriously directed at the characters and plot, NOT the actors and actresses themselves. I think they’re a wonderful team. Watching BTS has made the audience understand more about them, but had also made me like them even more. Angela Lee’s actually really cute off-screen, it’s just that she has the weepy, weakling character throughout. Then there’s Rabbit Yang and Zheng Ting Hu’s hilarious rehearsals behind the scenes. The rest of the cast was equally funny, especially Zhao Jie (Chen Jie, lol), who was seen up to no good at times when they were practicing or just waiting for a scene change. Jean Lee was quite pro, slipping in and out of characters so fast that it had amazed some of the people working with her. Pan Bo Xi and Dou Hua Mei, no need to say more, but they were really funny–and cute.
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
So after Chen Jie disclosed of Dong Han and Zi Yan’s relationship–or so he had guessed from all their interactions in the past, Yong Mei kept a closer eye on Zi Yan after Chen Jie delivered the tray of juices and cookies for her.
While that was going on, Zi Hong and Miao Miao returned to the forest to check it out, like they had talked about the previous day. They found out that the wooden tags were all gone, including Xiao Cao’s. It didn’t get dropped on the ground or anything like that. At least there wasn’t a trace of it. As Miao Miao was pondering about it, Zi Hong was forced to remember back to the poem that Grandpa Yang had recited in his letter to Miao Miao, and then also the poem that Xiao Cao had sent to Dong Han as a note previously. When Miao Miao asked, Zi Hong presented a possible case, stating that the person who came back to get the rest of the wooden tags wasn’t Xi Shuai but Xiao Cao.
On the other hand, Yang Yong Zhao finally made his move. Wearing an over-sized coat helped. Because he was able to conceal explosives inside the coat and managed to plant it on one of the locations. Then Xiao He finally managed to track down Dong Han’s mother. Or more like some other police officers had tracked her down and she said she’d been visiting friends these past few days. However, when Xiao He tracked her cell phone signals, it showed that she was at another location. The strangest thing was how she was at Yang Yong Zhao’s place.
Then it was back to Zi Hong and Miao Miao. Miao Miao was wondering why her grandpa’s letter and Xiao Cao’s note were from the same poet. Zi Hong pointed out that Dong Han and Grandpa Yang’s goals didn’t just include setting off an explosion to send a message. Miao Miao knew Zi Hong meant Jiang Jian Ming was the target yet she pointed out that the security was high at this point so it would be impossible for anyone to go near the place, even if it was Dong Han. Zi Hong said what if there was someone else at the Luo resident that was part of the plan. Miao Miao asked, “It’s her?” Who was she thinking about?
While they were waiting for new development (or whatever it was), Chief Zheng was thinking about what they’d learned so far with Yang Yong Zhao. He couldn’t believe it that Yang Yong Zhao had anything with this madness–or if he could figure it out. Yet he had some suspicions. It was too much of a coincidence. So belong long, he told Ah Gang to go find Yang Yong Zhao before calling Xiao He up. As that was going on, Dong Han was seen somewhere setting up a laptop. Was he getting ready for the final move?
Yong Mei finally approached Zi Yan to talk instead of spying on her from afar. Or more like, Zi Yan had spotted her minutes ago so she couldn’t hide anymore. Yong Mei’s first words to Zi Yan were asking Zi Yan why Zi Yan didn’t tell her that Zi Yan also liked Dong Han. Yong Mei actually apologized for not knowing, because she only focused on herself. Zi Yan asked Yong Mei why she was talking about that at such a time. Yong Mei recounted what Chen Jie told her, regarding how he wanted to drink Zi Yan and Dong Han’s ‘happy wine.’ Since Zi Yan didn’t say anything, Yong Mei continued on by asking if Dong Han also liked Zi Yan. Zi Yan didn’t say anything either so Yong Mei asked if Zi Yan could tell her. Zi Yan told her not to ask. Yong Mei insisted, saying she wanted to know. Yong Mei said perhaps Zi Yan had misunderstood. Zi Yan asked Yong Mei what she meant. Yong Mei said maybe Dong Han didn’t like Zi Yan yet Zi Yan had misunderstood. Zi Yan told Yong Mei not to say those hurtful words. Yong Mei yelled out that Zi Yan was hurting her by not telling her. (Really?) Then Yong Mei apologized, saying that she was the one who hurt Zi Yan. She said she initially thought that she could start over with Dong Han since she was carrying his baby. She never meant to hurt anyone, but just wanted to love someone. Yong Mei persisted again, asking why Zi Yan didn’t tell her earlier. Zi Yan finally spoke up, saying it was because she couldn’t say it out. When Yong Mei asked why, Zi Yan repeated her previous statement, telling Yong Mei not to ask because it was a secret. She said that there were things that could never be explained yet there were also things that could be explained within the next second. Yet she said Yong Mei could be reassured because Dong Han liked her. When Yong Mei asked Zi Yan how she had known, Zi Yan only stepped forward a little and leaned in, whispering, “Secret.” Then she left.
The turn of events finally happened. Zi Yan was told to rest while Chen Jie already had Xiao Ling there to help him. After nodding and smiling, Zi Yan quickly knocked both Chen Jie and Xiao Ling out. Before that though, Zi Hong and Miao Miao already put together that Zi Yan was Xiao Cao. Chief Zheng was talking to Xiao He as well with pulling Zi Yan’s file and her original identity. The question now is, could they stop her? After knocking both parties out, Zi Yan told Chen Jie not to go upstairs or he would incur bad luck. Chen Jie asked why it was her. As Zi Yan was heading upstairs, the flashback of Dong Han and her told the truth of what actually happened during their face-off. After Dong Han asked her, “So?”, she actually lowered her weapon and tossed him something. It was the wooden tag he carved with the symbol of a 4-clover leaf. She clarified that Teacher Yang didn’t just seek him out for the Returning Home Project, but had also sought her out. Dong Han asked her why Yang Yong Zhao didn’t tell him. She said she just found out about his identity the previous day. Dong Han then said that Teacher Yang had told him that there was someone else that was posing near Jiang Jian Ming. Zi Yan said it was her. When Zi Yan told him about their childhood and how he’d made pinwheels for them, his was yellow and hers was green, he finally lowered his gun. That was also when she walked over to him and hugged him–and he hugged her back. After a while, she pulled away and told him that there wasn’t much time left. Yet she had to ask one last thing, which was if he liked Yong Mei. She told him not to lie to her, and that she knew about Yong Mei’s pregnancy already. He said that previously, he thought he didn’t like Yong Mei at all yet after learning of her pregnancy he didn’t know anymore. When she asked about them, he said it hadn’t changed so she didn’t need to ask. Then he turned away, asking where Ah Zhi was. (Ah Zhi was the officer accompanying her that morning.) She looked at him a while before saying that he didn’t need to look anymore since she was going to send him off. She quickly drew her gun and shot herself in the arm. So she shot herself, not Dong Han. (If anyone watched episode 14’s BTS though, they would know.) Upon hearing the gunshot, Dong Han was beyond shocked, rushing over to her, asking what she was doing, trying to put pressure on her wound to stop the bleeding. She told him to leave yet he didn’t, he was still mad worried. She had to yell at him before he got up reluctantly to leave. But he turned one last time to look at her before finally leaving at last.
Back to the present, things were definitely moving fast now. Zi Yan was entering Jiang Jian Ming and his wife’s room. That was why she told Chen Jie not to go upstairs earlier. She told them of her original name before pointing a gun at them. They were soon tied up while Chen Jie and the others tried to do some damage control downstairs. Zi Yan used her cell phone to set up and it was connected to Dong Han. She told the other two in the room that they were being recorded and it was live. She advised them to tell the truth and she wouldn’t hurt them. She pointed the gun on them again, wanting them to follow Dong Han’s previous requests. Jiang Jian Ming asked if Zi Yan was nuts. (Seriously?) So elsewhere, Chief Zheng was calling Zi Hong and asking for his and Miao Miao’s help regarding Zi Yan. After much pressure from Zi Yan, Mrs. Jiang finally spoke up, admitting that she was the one who called Zhang Guo Tang yet she said she didn’t mean to hurt them. (Again, really?) It was like what Zhang Guo Tang said, Mrs. Jiang wanted to give some pressures toward the three families who didn’t want to move yet it turned into a disaster with the accident and all. Zi Yan didn’t believe it, considering the deaths and casualties. Zi Yan was indeed going crazy now, not far behind from Dong Han’s, forcing Mrs. Jiang to admit of hers and her husband’s doings. Jiang Jian Ming spoke up again, trying to get to Zi Yan, saying that he didn’t know about the matter until afterward and how his wife had regretted her actions since then hence moving to the U.S. until now because she couldn’t forgive herself. Jiang Jian Ming told Zi Yan to pull the trigger if she still didn’t believe his words because he already said all that needed to be said. Zi Yan couldn’t do it after much hesitation, breaking down completely. Outside, Miao Miao finally brushed off her tears and decided to enter. Chen Jie had given his ‘okay’, so Zi Hong knocked, trying to connect to Zi Yan by calling her “Xiao Cao”. They were able to enter the room. Miao Miao walked over to Zi Yan and they hugged. Zi Yan confessed that she really missed them both, always wanting to call their names when they met up in the present time yet she couldn’t. After much rambling, Zi Yan finally pulled away and told the others that Jiang Jian Ming and his wife admitted their doings already. Miao Miao stopped her and told her not to continue on that path anymore. Zi Hong spoke up to clarify the matter, saying that it was unbelievable yet he had already asked Zhang Guo Tang and his answer was the same. (Can we please find some other more credible sources on this?) That got Zi Yan riled up again, saying how could it be just an accident. Zi Hong said it was all right since he would prove it to her. He approached Mrs. Jiang at that time, asking her if she knew who he was. Mrs. Jiang diverted her eyes away from Zi Hong when he asked if there was some other reason aside from calling Zhang Guo Tang to scare the families who didn’t want to move. It wasn’t just because she was currently in fear of them, but because she was hiding something. Zi Hong said it out anyway, asking her if she meant for Zhang Guo Tang to send a message to his mother. Zi Hong said that he couldn’t forgive her yet he knew his mother had already forgiven her. Zi Yan jumped in then, asking Zi Hong what he meant. He then explained about the music box. Zi Hong’s conclusion was that that ‘accident’ could just be an accident or not because the target could just be him and his mother.
While that was going on, Chief Zheng finally found Yang Yong Zhao and had a talk with him. Chief Zheng had directed for the others to leave already. Chief Zheng said he wanted to do some betting with Yang Yong Zhao. Yang Yong Zhao asked why Chief Zheng was picking such a time to play around. Chief Zheng said that he believed Yang Yong Zhao wouldn’t let the plan carry through, i.e. the upcoming explosion. Yang Yong Zhao had to drop the front since Chief Zheng already put two and two together. Chief Zheng said that when he put together the special team, Dong Han and Zi Yan were recommended by Yang Yong Zhao. He had believed Yang Yong Zhao so much that he didn’t think otherwise. Chief Zheng reminded Yang Yong Zhao of his previous philosophy about not hurting others if one didn’t have to. He told Yang Yong Zhao to give up. Chief Zheng said that Zi Yan had already let go and that Zi Hong and Miao Miao were accompanying her. Chief Zheng also said that he could tell Chen Jie to let them go. Then the three of them could go look for Dong Han. Chief Zheng pointed out Yang Yong Zhao had wasted 20 years to set up this plan yet had caused many tragedies, because of the truth that he wanted. Chief Zheng went on to say perhaps the real monster wasn’t Jiang Jian Ming but was someone else. Project Jing Hai wasn’t what they thought it was nor was the so-called “truth” they were seeking. Yang Yong Zhao was still upset, obviously. He thought it through already but couldn’t accept it. Chief Zheng won since Yang Yong Zhao couldn’t carry through. He told Chief Zheng to arrest him at last. Yet Chief Zheng smiled, saying that he didn’t carry handcuffs. He also pointed out that if Yang Yong Zhao didn’t say anything, no one would know anyway. (What? So he gets the free ticket out?) Soon, Zi Yan called Yang Yong Zhao, telling him that she’d failed since the other two didn’t admit their doings. Yang Yong Zhao told her not to worry about it since it was more important that she found a way out. He told her that he also failed, that he’d let her and Dong Han down since he wasn’t able to carry through. Zi Yan told him that she and Dong Han knew already, and that the Returning Home Project had already started, and that she and Dong Han wanted to go find the truth home. Upon hearing that, Yang Yong Zhao was shocked, real shock this time. He asked her what she meant yet she said she wasn’t going to say before hanging up. Sensing the change in the wind, Chief Zheng asked Yang Yong Zhao what was going on after he hung up.
On the other hand, Zi Yan turned on her serious expression again after hanging up. She said that Zi Hong and Miao Miao were right yet she and Dong Han couldn’t let go. So she went to the door and told Chen Jie to disperse all police officers out of sight or she would kill the Jiang couple. Chen Jie shouted that she was also a cop yet she said she wished it was so, but she wasn’t anymore. Chen Jie had no choice but to do as told, telling all officers to clear out. Before entering his car, Chen Jie had turned to look at Zi Yan – who was upstairs monitoring their actions. When she was sure everyone had cleared out, she went back into the room, asking to borrow Zi Hong and Miao Miao’s car. Miao Miao wanted to know what Zi Yan meant earlier when she said “truth home” yet Zi Yan told her not to ask before turning to Zi Hong for the car key. She thanked Zi Hong before telling them to call Chen Jie after her departure and tell Chen Jie not to follow or Jiang Jian Ming would be in danger. Mrs. Jiang begged Zi Yan not to hurt Jiang Jian Ming. Zi Yan said that if she wanted to hurt anyone, Mrs. Jiang wouldn’t have a chance to beg her. Then she ordered Jiang Jian Ming to get up. She turned to Zi Hong and Miao Miao again, saying it was hard to talk each time they met since she didn’t have any time so she could only say a few words. Then she left with Jiang Jian Ming. After Zi Yan hauled Jiang Jiang Ming away, Zi Hong hesitated for quite a time before untying Mrs. Jiang. After a while, Mrs. Jiang said she wanted to apologize to Zi Hong for twenty years already.
Meanwhile, Zi Yan finally stopped along the way and hauled Jiang Jian Ming out. He kept insisting on the whole ‘innocent’ card. Jiang Jian Ming asked Zi Yan if she wanted to kill him. He only admitted his fault where Zi Hong and his mother were concerned. Zi Yan let Jiang Jian Ming go. Yet it wasn’t really letting him go. (He had better start walking, lol.) And back at the Luo resident, Zi Hong and Miao Miao were still trying to decipher Zi Yan’s words.
Zi Yan and Dong Han finally met up again. While they were walking toward one another, flashbacks showed what happened years ago when Yang Yong Zhao first approached them and wanted to recruit them for the plan. There was another part of the conversation between Zi Yan and Dong Han during their face-off scene that wasn’t revealed yet. It was about how Yang Yong Zhao kept their identities secret from one another to protect them. Then back to the present scene, they finally hugged. Zi Yan said that she wanted to go look for him three years ago yet Teacher Yang told her to send that note to him. Dong Han said he understood. And then elsewhere, Chen Jie was driving Zi Hong and Miao Miao at this point, still trying to figure out the puzzle. Chen Jie wanted to know if there was a way to persuade Dong Han and Zi Yan.
So the crucial moment had arrived. Zi Yan and Dong Han were both ready. They finally activated the bomb, which was somewhere below the bridge. Yes, that was their plan. It was no longer Yang Yong Zhao’s fight, considering how he had backed out on them. Zi Hong, Miao Miao, and Chen Jie also arrived on time. Before heading off with Miao Miao, Zi Hong told Chen Jie to stay away. Upon seeing Zi Hong and Miao Miao, Dong Han yelled out, warning them not to come any closer. However, typical them, they didn’t listen. When they were much closer, Zi Hong took another step to be where Zi Yan and Dong Han were and placed his hand on theirs before turning to Miao Miao. She walked over and did the same. She also declared that they were finally reunited. Zi Hong asked Zi Yan and Dong Han if they missed their old town. He said he wasn’t going to persuade the two otherwise since he knew it would be useless anyway. He said if they wanted to go home, they would all go together. It was like how when they were little, standing in a circle but holding the music box. Dong Han couldn’t take it anymore so he tossed the remote toward the water. Zi Hong was happy that he had let go so they hurdled together for a group hug.
Dong Han was seen standing far away from them minutes later. Zi Hong was asking Chen Jie if it was possible to let them go. Chen Jie couldn’t believe what he was hearing. On the other side, Miao Miao was saying how Zi Yan told her that Zi Yan had a lot to tell her, so she admitted she was the same. She wanted Zi Yan to move in with them later. It seemed like it was set. However, what was troublesome was how Dong Han had wandered off on his own. He didn’t seem to be fine like how Zi Yan seemed to give up on the idea of the plan already. He went to deactivate the bomb.
When he returned, the others were still standing there waiting for him. He took a look at them before speaking. After some ominous words, he called out his three childhood friends, saying he loved them before running off. Yup, he wasn’t giving up as easily. He had strapped some explosives to himself. So now the other four were chasing him, trying to get him to stop. He finally stopped at a clearing, having left them behind a long distance already. He turned to take one last look at them, even smiling, before heading toward the trees. Yup, he committed suicide with the explosives. Miao Miao had Zi Hong to grab her back, but what about Zi Yan? Chen Jie was as shocked as the rest of them, so he hadn’t recovered yet. Zi Yan was able to take several more steps toward the sight, which was still sending smokes up the atmosphere, before breaking down completely. Zi Yan finally blurted out that she was able to see the crescent moon within daylight that Dong Han had mentioned before.
Another tragic scene was when Dong Han’s mother received the last message from him. He said that when she received the message, she would also receive a present. It’s his last Christmas present to her. He thanked her for giving him such a family. What he owed her, he had no way of repaying. So what he wanted was for her not to shed tears because of him.
Yong Mei finally broke the news to her family about her pregnancy, and who the father of her child was. She had also decided to keep the baby. She would one day tell the baby who his/her father was. She wanted the others to think carefully about the situation. She wanted to seek some justice for Dong Han. Head Commissioner Luo said that he owed Dong Han that ‘justice’, so he would take care of it. That seemed to satisfy Yong Mei.
So then people moved on with their lives. Zi Hong was seen back at school, teaching the kids singing and getting them involved in some competition. Yet the point wasn’t about winning or losing but about the music. Zi Hong, Miao Miao, and Yong Mei were seen at the forest hanging paper cranes. Then Chief Zheng was seen talking to Yang Yong Zhao and Miao Miao, and that Yang Yong Zhao wanted to confess his crime. Chief Zheng wanted to forget it and even told Chen Jie and the other two to forget the matter. Mrs. Jiang finally confessed to her doings twenty years ago, even if that was an accident, but she was the one who gave instructions to threaten the others anyway. As for Zi Yan, she was seen in the interrogation room with Chief Zheng with the other three remaining members of the special team standing outside watching. No other details were disclosed about her. At least not yet. Then surprise of all surprises, but possibly not that much, Zi Hong moved back in with Shen You Fu. Miao Miao was seen inside preparing dinner for them all. Even Xuan Xuan was there. Another incident was how Zi Hong managed to go meet up with Jiang Jian Ming. Jiang Jian Ming finally told Zi Hong the truth–with how he didn’t plan on Zi Hong’s existence, but he was very happy to have Zi Hong as a son. Even though Jiang Jian Ming admitted his guilt in not being able to take care of both mother and son, but Zi Hong clarified Jiang Jian Ming only owed his mother, not him since he was his mother’s son, not Jiang Jian Ming’s. Yup, he still hadn’t accepted Jiang Jian Ming.
Then it was revealed where Zi Yan was. She was in prison. Yong Mei came to see her and asked about her well-being. (Really? What kind of question was that?) Zi Yan nodded her head, indicating she was fine. Yong Mei came to brag about how Dong Han had curved a wooden tag with a rose on it for her. So she said that Zi Yan was right that Dong Han liked her and cared for her. Zi Yan only nodded. Yong Mei then told Zi Yan about her decision in keeping the baby. She then asked Zi Yan if Zi Yan wanted to be a mother. She wanted to share the baby. Zi Yan agreed, even shedding some tears.
Then the townspeople of years ago were gathered around those trees like they once promised–after so many things had happened. Yong Mei also took that chance to tell Dong Han’s mother that she was pregnant with Dong Han’s child. Ms. Liu was more than happy, of course. She then looked toward Yong Mei’s mother, who was standing at a distance from them and smiled. It was like they were making peace at last.
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
As it were, the chase began after Xiao He informed Chen Jie and Ah Gang of Zi Hong’s whereabouts. The strangest thing was they soon lost track of Zi Hong. It was because Zi Hong had dodged into a parking lot complex to avoid them. So he didn’t get caught after all. Unlike what it seemed to imply with the intensity of the previous episode’s exit point.
Zi Hong finally met up with Miao Miao and his father. When Miao Miao asked about Zhang Guo Tang, Zi Hong told her that he’d sent Zhang Guo Tang off to the police already. After the initial question though, he didn’t seem to be so chatty or would ask of his father’s well-being like he would usually focus on like in the past. Instead of delaying the matter any longer, Zi Hong went straight to the point, stating what Zhang Guo Tang had said previously to him (aka Shen You Fu’s involvement with the accident 20 years ago). He begged the man to speak up, to just give him one response. Mr. Shen admitted his part in the tragic incident. (So it made sense he seemed more than riled up when Zi Hong said he wanted to seek out Zhang Guo Tang and find an answer. Well, it made a lot of sense that he was worried for Zi Hong’s safety, but it also explained why the old man seemed so panicky.) It was like how Zhang Guo Tang had said, it was just a warning to them so they would move yet a little threat had turned into the worst. (Jeez, dressing up creepy and standing in the middle of the street on a rainy day, and at such a tricky area too, what do they expect? So they did try to undo the damage and save the others but what did they expect to happen? The obvious rainy day, the slippery roads, would the vehicles stop safely in that condition?) Anyway, after the accident, they lied to the police, saying that they heard the news of the accident hence rushing over to help. They were indeed scared and didn’t know it would turn out that way yet the truth was they were all involved right from the beginning. They ended up being written as heroes, trying to save the families instead of murderers. After he was done telling his tale, Mr. Shen said he didn’t deserve to be called “Dad” by Zi Hong, because he was a conspirator. That was the reason why he took Zi Hong in because he wanted to make up for his past wrongdoings. However, Zi Hong knew it wasn’t all fake with Mr. Shen and Mrs. Shen taking him in. He knew because they treated him so well. Then he asked if what Zhang Guo Tang said was true, regarding how they didn’t mean to kill anyone. Mr. Shen confirmed that it was indeed an accident. Even if that was true, Zi Hong still couldn’t believe that an accident had killed 5 people and disabled his mother like that. It indeed was hard to accept. It wasn’t until Miao Miao reached a hand over to comfort Zi Hong that he finally pulled himself together. He then asked if Jiang Jian Ming was the one who had issued the orders. Mr. Shen denied it. Zi Hong said that Zhang Guo Tang said they received a call from Mrs. Jiang. Mr. Shen said that was true, but Jiang Jian Ming didn’t know about the matter until afterward. He really wanted Zi Hong to believe him yet Zi Hong said he was still hiding some things. Zi Hong said that there was some other reason as to why Mr. Shen had adopted Zi Hong, and it wasn’t just to make up for his wrongdoings. Mr. Shen asked what Zi Hong had found out. Zi Hong got up before saying that Zhang Guo Tang couldn’t harm anyone anymore so Mr. Shen could go home by himself since he couldn’t send him off. Zi Hong also told Mr. Shen to send words along to Jiang Jian Ming that he will go see Jiang Jian Ming soon. Then he grabbed Miao Miao’s hand and pulled her along.
So they finally got a chance to interrogate Zhang Guo Tang. Zhang Guo Tang indeed was tough, not cracking at all and was still relaxed like he was on some vacation. He ignored Chief Zheng’s words and seemed not to care. After Chief Zheng was done, Zhang Guo Tang finally spoke up and said that he would be free soon, whether they believed him or not. He continued taunting them by saying that his friend wasn’t just one person like Liu Yue Ying. He then turned to Zi Yan and Dong Han, asking them to say a word or two so he could recognize them. He was definitely having fun with taunting them. What got even more amusing was how he said that the voice was very familiar, turning back to Chief Zheng. Chief Zheng said to keep his attitude up when he stand in front of the judge because he would definitely get the death sentence that he wanted. Zhang Guo Tang said he only wanted freedom.
Back outside, Dong Han said that they should transfer Zhang Guo Tang to the secret headquarter so it would be safer. Chief Zheng agreed and told Dong Han and Zi Yan to keep guard for the night. Chief Zheng said that he would be more at ease with the two being there. After Chief Zheng left, Zi Yan said she initially wanted to go buy the gift but can’t anymore. Dong Han asked her what she meant with the ‘gift’. She had to remind him about his birthday being the next day. He then realized it and said he had forgotten about it. She hit him before saying that he was such a workaholic that he had forgotten his own birthday. She scanned the surrounding area before lacing her hand with his, saying that they should go. Dong Han told her to go first since he wanted to call his mother first. She said she would wait for him yet he turned her down, saying that he would meet her there after the call. She agreed and headed off. And Dong Han indeed called his mother. Yet it wasn’t what Zi Yan would imagine about the conversation. Ms. Liu said that she heard the news regarding Zhang Guo Tang’s arrest and asked if he ratted out Dong Han already. Dong Han said no, but Zhang Guo Tang had implied that they would save him soon or he would rat them out thus sabotaging their plans. Ms. Liu asked about their next move. Dong Han said he would take care of it. Ms. Liu, worried, asked if Dong Han really wanted to risk his career and release Zhang Guo Tang. Dong Han reassured her that nothing would happen. She attempted to convince him otherwise yet he said he had to go. Not long after, he received some more text messages from Yong Mei. She mentioned about Zhang Guo Tang’s arrest but was also saddened that the mission would be over leading to his departure. She asked if they could meet one more time. Dong Han indeed took full advantage of the situation, finally responding back to her, saying that he would meet up with her tomorrow. Yong Mei, indeed, was very happy, not knowing what she was walking into.
Meanwhile elsewhere, Miao Miao was questioning Zi Hong about what happened earlier. When she asked him about the incident of 20 years ago really being an accident, he shook his head. She then asked him what he had found out. A brief silence between them before he spoke up. He said that since little, he had thought of Zhang Guo Tang and the other two as murderers because he had remembered clearly what had happened. When he’d grown up, he often thought back of what happened. The images of Zhang Guo Tang and the other two were blocking their path, Xiao Cao’s father was the one who swerved in fear that he would hit the three. Every time he thought of that part, he didn’t dare to think anymore. He couldn’t believe it was just an accident, just like how he’d said previously when they were still with Mr. Shen. If it was an accident, who would he seek justice with? He also pondered how Dong Han would react if he knew the truth. He said that during the accident, Dong Han was asleep so he only learned of the details from Zi Hong afterward. Zi Hong also said that if Dong Han knew it was just an accident, Dong Han would definitely go crazy. Then Ms. Liu called, asking to meet up the next day.
When Zi Hong and Miao Miao went to meet up with Ms. Liu the next morning, she asked them if they wanted to join their Project Returning Home. Then she told them that she wanted them to meet some old friends. They were all from their town ages back. Ms. Liu soon elaborated that they were all living evidence of Project Jing Hai. Zi Hong asked her what she meant. What shocked Zi Hong and Miao Miao the most was seeing Grandpa Yang showing up. Yes, a major surprise indeed. He explained how he found out about Project Jing Hai or more like the lack of knowledge and how he got conned–along with the others. Miao Miao’s father’s death wasn’t that simple, i.e. the man died because of poison. Grandpa Yang got forgiven by his son before the latter died. However, he told Grandpa Yang to gather the townspeople together and ask for forgiveness. Since then, he’d been trying to seek justice for them. Yes, the leader behind Project Returning Home was Grandpa Yang. So he was the person who sought out Zhang Guo Tang and got him to come back. (Getting confusing again but makes sense, lol.) When Zi Hong asked why, Grandpa Yang said it all started with the song “The New World.” He then reminisced about fifty years ago. It had to do with the young head of the town, who often brought along a gramophone and introduced the song “The New World” to them. Of course, the townspeople didn’t understand those types of music or heard of the musician Antonín Leopold Dvořák (the song is actually called “From the New World”). Anyway, that was also around the same time that the land redevelopment project came about, and that young man had tried to persuade them to cooperate with the project. At first, the townspeople were really against him yet he used the song “The New World” to get on their good side. That young man was Jiang Jian Ming. After many heartbreaking recounts, Grandpa Yang finally mentioned the details regarding the accident of twenty years ago. He said he returned on the second day of the accident, but it was still raining so most of the traces of the accidents had been washed away. Therefore, he wasn’t able to investigate anything. Ms. Liu interfered when Grandpa Yang blamed himself. She said he was able to investigate the whereabouts of the three kids, allowing the others to adopt them so he had done all he could. That was when Zi Hong and Miao Miao reacted. Grandpa Yang clarified how he and Ms. Liu had found Zi Hong’s mother and were heartbroken with how the lady had turned out. When he saw the music box on her lap, he remembered back to the song Jiang Jian Ming had given them, a big lie. He was unwilling to let the others off so easily after how people were hurt. He finally initiated the plan when the head councilman was about to accept his new rank. He also contacted Zhang Guo Tang. His initial plan was to let Zhang Guo Tang go after Jiang Jian Ming and exposed Jiang Jian Ming. Yet what was unexpected was how Zhang Guo Tang didn’t keep his words with how they didn’t plan to hurt anyone. That was when things went haywire. So Jiang Jian Ming’s assistant’s death was all Zhang Guo Tang’s doing and the beginning of the torn between the two sides, i.e. Grandpa Yang was upset over the move hence Zhang Guo Tang going after Miao Miao. Zi Hong finally reacted and said that they were acting like a bunch of terrorists and that they shouldn’t seek out Zhang Guo Tang, causing so many problems. Zi Hong pointed out that Zhang Guo Tang obviously understood that Grandpa Yang and the others were just using him to go against Jiang Jian Ming. Grandpa Yang didn’t care, he wanted to seek justice for all the others. Ms. Liu also jumped in to back Grandpa Yang up. Zi Hong once again repeated what he had said to Dong Han initially, about how innocent would be hurt, etc. Grandpa Yang reminded Zi Hong to think about his mother. Zi Hong didn’t care for Grandpa Yang’s justifications. Grandpa Yang then disclosed a secret that he accidentally found out and didn’t mean to keep it from Zi Hong. Yet now, he had to say it out, which had to do with the music box Zi Hong’s mother treasured so much since ages back. Grandpa Yang had seen it somewhere before and claimed it was identical. The person who had it made said that there were only two of those music boxes. Grandpa Yang wanted to pause for effect, asking Zi Hong if he could say it out. Grandpa Yang realized Zi Hong must have known so he asked about it. Zi Hong said he wasn’t sure, but he could only guess. Ms. Liu jumped in to ask how long had he known. It had been 10 years already. Grandpa Yang said if Zi Hong didn’t want him to say it out, he wouldn’t. Zi Hong blurted out, at last, not wanting to delay any longer. It was Jiang Jian Ming. (So if Jiang Jian Ming’s Zi Hong’s biological father, then Zi Hong’s Yong Mei’s uncle? Nice, lol. Or not.) So their last resort was having Zi Hong go and confront Jiang Jian Ming of the matter. (Wow, tragic.) Zi Hong, after much hesitation, finally accepted to join them. He was their last ‘peaceful’ plan with forcing Jiang Jian Ming to admit his part in all the tragedies since ages ago, not just what happened twenty years ago. Zi Hong wanted to use that chance to delay the madness and their other bizarre plans. Miao Miao, of course, was on the same side as Zi Hong, not wanting them to continue on like that. Grandpa Yang went ballistic saying that what he wanted to do, no one could stop, even if it was Miao Miao. Yet soon, the others departed, leaving Zi Hong and Miao Miao behind.
Mr. Shen finally got the chance to report to his boss about what happened. He said that Zi Hong knew already. Chairman Jiang asked Mr. Shen if Zi Hong hated him. Mr. Shen replied that he didn’t know. Chairman Jiang then asked if Zi Hong hated Mr. Shen. He didn’t know either but he said Zi Hong didn’t call him “Dad” anymore. Chairman Jiang said that Zi Hong had gone overboard, and continued on with how Zi Hong could hate him but shouldn’t hate Mr. Shen.
Then it was back to Zi Hong and Miao Miao again. Miao Miao was saying how she finally learned of her father’s real death cause. She understood why her grandpa was so upset, and even conjured up such a plan. After some more pondering about Grandpa Yang and her situation, they moved on to discuss Zi Hong and Jiang Jian Ming. Miao Miao pondered if Zi Hong wanted to know about the other reason that Mr. Shen adopted Zi Hong was because of Jiang Jian Ming wanting him to. Zi Hong admitted it. He then recounted one of the times he followed Miao Miao during high school. That was the time that he had told Miao Miao before. The time he almost followed her to her home yet didn’t want to enter. He gave up and went to visit his mother yet didn’t want to come in. He then turned back out to the old path to exit the place. Yet he spotted his mother being wheeled by someone. That person looked familiar from behind and when that person turned around, he realized it was Jiang Jian Ming. Jiang Jian Ming probably thought it was safe to visit that day. Zi Hong didn’t know what Jiang Jian Ming was saying to his mother but also saw the man cried. He guessed that Jiang Jian Ming was his father. Then Zi Hong talked about his conflicting feelings at times with Jiang Jian Ming.
So they finally escorted Zhang Guo Tang to the secret headquarter. Before getting out of the van, Dong Han had used his phone. It was kind of hard to tell which one though. Yet Xiao He’s call to Chen Jie after they got out of the van confirmed that it was the secret cell phone Dong Han used on several occasions already. Chen Jie reassured Xiao He that Zhang Guo Tang was already handcuffed and secured already so it wasn’t his cell phone or anything like that. Xiao He wanted Chen Jie to come and check it out. Chen Jie told Dong Han and Ah Gang to be careful as he told Zi Yan to follow him. When they entered the control room, Xiao He quickly pointed out the signal of an unknown cell phone appearing on the radar. Zi Yan spoke up to say what if it wasn’t Zhang Guo Tang’s. Back outside, Dong Han and Ah Gang were dragging Zhang Guo Tang in. Zhang Guo Tang asked to go to the restroom. Ah Gang turned him down, telling him to wait. Zhang Guo Tang continued with taunting them. Ah Gang didn’t want to play games with him. As he turned to taunt Dong Han, Xiao He was saying how if it wasn’t Zhang Guo Tang, it could be Dong Han or Ah Gang. Chen Jie said it couldn’t be Dong Han. Xiao He was pondering about Ah Gang. Zi Yan said they should be careful and alert the other two regarding some suspicious activities. Chen Jie agreed, telling Zi Yan to call Dong Han and he would call Ah Gang. So while Ah Gang was pushing Zhang Guo Tang along, Dong Han fell back and turned off his secret cell phone. He then tackled Ah Gang, apologizing to him and took his gun before freeing Zhang Guo Tang. Zhang Guo Tang said he recognized Dong Han’s voice. Dong Han told him that they didn’t have much time so he shouldn’t spout nonsense. Inside the control room, Xiao He couldn’t scan the signals from the secret cell phone anymore. That was when Chen Jie told Zi Yan to go and check it out.
Dong Han led Zhang Guo Tang outside yet it wasn’t to release him. He tossed Zhang Guo Tang a wooden tag, telling him to read the names on the tag. Those were his family members. So while Dong Han was confronting Zhang Guo Tang, Chen Jie and Zi Yan finally found Ah Gang on the floor. They rushed over to him and asked about what happened. Ah Gang blurted out “Dong Han”. Zi Yan asked him what happened to Dong Han. Ah Gang said that Dong Han was the mole. That sure shocked the other two. However, what was more shocking was what Dong Han did next outside. After Dong Han told Zhang Guo Tang about the three people who were killed twenty years ago, Dong Han said they were waiting for him. Dong Han retrieved his gun and shot Zhang Guo Tang. It wasn’t too surprising, considering his past actions. It was still shocking in the sense that it was Zhang Guo Tang, and it was right there. Zhang Guo Tang definitely didn’t see that coming. The other three heard the shot, but only Chen Jie and Zi Yan rushed outside to check. Dong Han, of course, fled. He was indeed cautious and natural. He walked out of there like nothing happened. He only had to dodge Chen Jie and Zi Yan, after all, considering how he was still a cop to the other officers so they only rushed by him to check things out when they heard the gunshot. When Chen Jie and Zi Yan were by Zhang Guo Tang’s body, Chen Jie was beyond himself. He blurted out, “How could it be Dong Han?” He had every right to be furious, considering how he’d been so deceived. Yet he was still their leader and quickly called Xiao He up. Then he rushed out of there, making up for the lost time–with Zi Yan in toll. As for Dong Han, he tossed his badge and phones (yes, both the official one and the secret one) and got in his car to escape. And what was so grand about it was that he deceived the guards along the path too, saluting to them as he drove past. Then there was Chen Jie and Zi Yan, rushing outside–with Chen Jie yelling out Dong Han’s name with much rage.
Meanwhile, Grandpa Yang and Ms. Liu finally made it back to their place. Ms. Liu was convincing Grandpa Yang not to be upset, saying that Miao Miao was also right with her thoughts. She also reminded Grandpa Yang that he initially didn’t want Miao Miao too involved. Before long, Grandpa Yang’s cell phone rang. It was Dong Han calling in. Dong Han had called Grandpa Yang “Teacher.” (So he had another backup phone. Okay, that made sense. He had to be prepared, considering how he was in a dangerous spot.) Dong Han first reassured Grandpa Yang that it was safe since he was using a different phone to call. Then he asked to speak to his mother. Grandpa Yang placed him on speaker. Dong Han told his mother that the cops will come to look for her soon. She asked why, and he had to confess that he just killed Zhang Guo Tang. He said that Zhang Guo Tang was out of control already so Zhang Guo Tang would rat them out regardless. Dong Han then told his mother to tell the cops that she didn’t know anything if they were to ask. He also told them that Project Returning Home must be carried out to the end and that he could take the blame/face the punishment if it were to come to that. He said his next step was to take along Yong Mei as a hostage. Grandpa Yang told him not to go too far. He said that it was too slow, and then he confessed to the other two murders. He said it would even out with his family members. Grandpa Yang told him he and Zhang Guo Tang were the same now, both were equally insane. Dong Han said that he couldn’t let his teacher take the fall for it, because he knew Grandpa Yang would have to take care of Zhang Guo Tang sooner or later, considering how Zhang Guo Tang was a threat to their side too (possibly exposing them and preventing them from carrying out the plans). He continued by saying how he didn’t have a choice anymore but to proceed with the next step. Grandpa Yang pointed out that Yong Mei was innocent. Grandpa Yang said that Zi Hong and Miao Miao already agreed to join and would go confront Jiang Jian Ming. Dong Han said that with Yong Mei, they have a higher rate of success. He also didn’t want to wait anymore. Ms. Liu was beyond tears now, begging Dong Han not to do it. Yet Dong Han said he couldn’t wait anymore, and hung up after a few more words. Grandpa Yang finally realized what he had done with dragging in the third generation. He said if he had carried out the plan himself, this wouldn’t happen. He then turned to Ms. Liu and apologized to her.
Dong Han proceeded as planned. He got to the Luo resident and flashed out his smile to the officers on duty and breezed past the entrance in no time. As he entered the place, he called out Yong Mei’s name several times. It wasn’t long before Yong Mei stepped out to greet him with her usual bright smile. What now?
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
So the conversation resumed with how Yong Mei was still sore over her missed chance of talking to Dong Han with whatever it was that she claimed was so important. Then Yong Mei decided to extract information from Zi Yan. Zi Yan responded that she didn’t know what was going on either, but it was possibly because of work pressures. (Yeah, people actually have things to do aside from catering to rich princess’ commands.) Anyway, Zi Yan had to go into explaining how it had to do with their duties and how dangerous it was, not knowing if they had a tomorrow. Zi Yan asked for Yong Mei’s understanding.
That night, Zi Yan tried to talk to Dong Han about it. Yet Dong Han reasoned that it was Yong Mei who forced him into taking such drastic measures. Zi Yan pointed out that even if Dong Han did such, Yong Mei wouldn’t give up either. Dong Han asked Zi Yan if she was also forcing him to take action. It indeed was hard, considering Zi Yan’s standing. Zi Yan then said that seeing how sad Yong Mei was, it had made her sad as well. Then things got quiet. Dong Han seemed so distant and somewhat scary. Zi Yan spoke up again, saying how he was making her worry. He finally spoke up and said that he feared that one day she couldn’t stand it anymore and would hate him. He walked over to her to take her hands into his before saying that if that day indeed came, he hoped that she could say goodbye to him without any hesitation.
Apparently the person whom Dong Han wanted Zi Hong to meet up with was his mother. At least his current mother. Ms. Liu was actually one of their neighbors since ages ago too and known their parents quite well. Ms. Liu said that she was really happy to see them all reunited again. Then she launched into telling them a story, which she said would be right to tell them at that point. It happened fifty years ago when she was only six years old. Basically, their livelihoods were quite good with everyone helping one another within the fields and were like a family working together during harvest seasons. It wasn’t just like that, but overall, it paved a nice picture. Yet thirty years later (which meant it was twenty years ago), things changed. That was also the time of the land redevelopment incident occurred and how everyone was forced to move. Like it was said many times before, there were only three families who didn’t sign the papers. However, Qing Ting’s mother reassured them and suggested that they gathered around and planted the trees–and that one day they would return to see their effort flourishing. That day was June 23rd (aka the day they gathered to plant the trees). No one knew what the future would bring them. What they didn’t expect were the accidents that had caused five deaths and four injuries that occurred several days later. Some of them had agreed to take the kids as a gesture to their old fellow neighbors. At that time, Ms. Liu’s husband was still alive and they didn’t have any kids and their financial situation was stable so they took in Xi Shuai. Xiao Cao was also adopted by another family yet she didn’t want to be disturbed anymore. So that was when Ms. Liu paused and told the others not to go seek out Xiao Cao either. Ms. Liu resumed her story with how not being able to locate Qing Ting until later and heard that he’d been adopted by Shen You Fu. Then there was his mother, so they decided to take turns in visiting her and taking care of her. So whenever Zi Hong came, they knew. At least Ms. Liu saw them together. Ms. Liu blamed herself for what happened, because if they hadn’t moved and had forged together perhaps it wouldn’t turn out like that with how Qing Ting’s mother became that way, and how Xi Shuai’s parents and younger brother had died, and also Xiao Cao’s parents. Then Dong Han had to step forward to comfort her, saying it wasn’t like that. She pulled herself together and said she wouldn’t mention it anymore. It was now about finding out what really happened twenty years ago (aka the real reason behind it all). Miao Miao jumped in to ask if it was the accident. Ms. Liu said it wasn’t just that, but also Project Jing Hai. That got Zi Hong’s interest. Ms. Liu confessed that she only heard about it ten years after she left the town and didn’t know much about it as she would like to. However, she was sure that it had to do with Jiang Jian Ming. (So it made sense now that Dong Han was glaring at him with much hatred that one time when he came to put pressure on them.) Ms. Liu said it was just them now, but it was about time that they seek justice for the others. (It also made sense how Dong Han kept his goal clear after all these years.) Ms. Liu continued by saying that they have a plan to force Jiang Jian Ming into speaking up and revealing the truth behind it all. (Why are they saying all these to Miao Miao? She was going to rat them out with her best pal.) Dong Han quickly revealed their next step, which caused Miao Miao to be shocked by it (obviously). Their plan was called “Returning Home” (回家). Miao Miao asked if they were joking with that part of the plan. Zi Hong was still thinking. Ms. Liu said she hoped that they would join in with the plan, but she also told them to think it over. She then excused herself, saying that the person who drove her there was waiting for her.
Dong Han then took them to the forest–where the trees were–and told them how his mother had taken him there from time to time. Then he had placed the wooden tags on the trees when he returned to accept the mission, and how he was really happy to read Miao Miao’s article. At first, when he heard about Zi Hong’s identity being Qing Ting, he didn’t know what to make of it. It wasn’t until they confirmed Zi Hong’s identity through the sealed files that he dared to believe. That was also when he knew Zi Hong still remembered their childhood, and when he went to check out Zi Hong’s workplace, he was really touched to learn about the music cards. Because that was part of their childhood. He also realized that Zi Hong was like him, still wanting to avenge for their families. He wanted the other two to join them in their plan. Miao Miao said she wanted to join their plan too, but with how they wanted to cause some kind of explosion, it seemed too extreme. Yes, that was their plan. And then Zi Hong spoke up to say that many people would be hurt and be out of jobs, etc. Miao Miao also spoke up to agree with Zi Hong, saying how it would cause the ruptures in so many lives. Dong Han asked if they were no longer Qing Ting and Miao Miao, but were using their identities as Teacher Zi Hong and Reporter Yang speaking up now. Miao Miao asked Dong Han what would the others do then. Dong Han said if Jiang Jian Ming were to come out to admit and apologize for what happened then they wouldn’t take that step. Miao Miao asked if Dong Han was sure if it was really Jiang Jian Ming. (Of course, she had to speak up for her best pal’s families.) Miao Miao said those things needed evidence to be sure. Dong Han said if they agreed to join in on the plan, then his mother would show them the evidence. Zi Hong said it didn’t matter if there were evidence, the plan would affect too many people, and that they shouldn’t resort to such measures. Dong Han, even more upset by now, asked if Zi Hong had already forgotten what happened years ago. Zi Hong said he didn’t forget. The struggle continued between not wanting to drag other innocent people in versus how some people didn’t lose all family members went on for a bit more before Dong Han lost it and slammed Zi Hong into a tree. Yup, Dong Han totally lost it. He asked Zi Hong if Zi Hong really could get Jiang Jian Ming to admit his wrongdoings because it seemed like Zi Hong hadn’t kept his promise regarding how the three of them wouldn’t separate and how Zi Hong would take them to Miao Miao. He then reminded Zi Hong how he said he didn’t care that Xiao Cao was gone, but it wasn’t so. He really hated Zi Hong for breaking the promise that time when he woke up in the car and Xiao Cao was gone. After that lash out, Zi Hong couldn’t say anything but words of apologies. Dong Han finally let go of Zi Hong and turned away. After composing himself, he told Zi Hong not to apologize. He said him hating Zi Hong was just like hating himself because what he promised Xiao Cao, he couldn’t do it either. But what they could do now is make someone else apologize. He wanted to ask them one last time if they wanted to join or not. Miao Miao said it was possible, but they shouldn’t cause the explosion. It was now Zi Hong’s turn. Zi Hong said that he was like Dong Han in the past, hating and wanting to make someone pay. But then he thought it through already. Zi Hong said that his mother wouldn’t want to be the reason that he kills or harm others. Dong Han mentioned seeking justice, restoring what was lost, i.e their homes, etc. Zi Hong said those weren’t lost, and there were other ways to seek justice. It was Miao Miao who reminded him of it. Dong Han asked them one last time if that was their answer. Dong then asked if Zi Hong was able to not kill Zhang Guo Tang after finding him and would hand him over to the police. Zi Hong said he would after he could find the answers he needed. Dong Han nodded, saying that they didn’t need to join forces. Zi Hong asked why not. Dong Han said it was because the roads that they were traveling on weren’t the same one. Zi Hong asked if Dong Han wanted to kill “him”. The “him” in question wasn’t too clear, but Dong Han didn’t answer at first so Zi Hong persisted. Dong Han said that those were Zi Hong’s words, not his. Miao Miao interfered again, but it wasn’t to lecture Dong Han, not yet. She asked him if he killed the others hence reassuring her previously that Zi Hong didn’t do it. Yup, it was Dong Han. He followed Zi Hong and thought Zi Hong had the same plan as him when visiting one of Zhang Guo Tang’s henchmen yet Zi Hong left after leaving the music card so he knew it wasn’t the same. Dong Han said that plan was too slow with trying to lure Zhang Guo Tang out, he can’t wait. What he regretted the most was causing Zi Hong to be dragged in as the prime suspect. Zi Hong didn’t blame Dong Han, but he said those two were still innocents. Dong Han asked back if his family was as innocent. Zi Hong brought up what Chief Zheng said previously about a third party, which was Dong Han’s side, NOT Zi Hong like Chief Zheng had suspected. Dong Han said it was all right if Zi Hong used the word “our” instead of “your” side since he still wanted the other two to join. Zi Hong said he didn’t want the whole an eye for an eye type of thing. Miao Miao asked if Ms. Liu knew about the killings. Dong Han said if the other two didn’t say, she wouldn’t know. Dong Han then took out a cell phone and handed it to Zi Hong, saying if Zi Hong dial the number on there, he would reach Ms. Liu and Zi Hong could tell her that they agreed to join. Zi Hong said he hadn’t agreed. Dong Han turned around and smiled (which is creepy for the situation. What he said next confirmed my suspicion). He said that he saw Zi Hong burned the evidence that day so he already filmed a clip of it, and had intended to use it as a joke later when they reunited before destroying the clip. However, at this point, he could use it as evidence against Zi Hong. Miao Miao scrunched up then, calling Dong Han as “Liu Dong Han” instead of Xi Shuai like before, asking if he really wanted to do that. Dong Han said that it was up to that point, he had no choice but to do so. And he didn’t want Zhang Guo Tang to land into their hands. Miao Miao said she could call Chief Zheng up and tell him about the whole thing. Dong Han said she would risk his arrest. He knew the other two wouldn’t do that to him. Miao Miao jumped back to calling him “Xi Shuai” yet he said not to waste any more time. (Finally!) He gave them the ultimatum, either join or risk Zi Hong’s arrest. Zi Hong said the more Dong Han pressure him, the more he wouldn’t join. Dong Han apologized one last time, saying that he really didn’t want to do it. But regardless of what happened, they were still his family. Miao Miao cried out that if they were really family, it wouldn’t turn out like that. (I thought we were moving forward? Why the roundabout again?) Dong Han said that after it was all done, he would clarify everything and accept the punishment, whatever that might be. Of course, that would also mean clearing Zi Hong’s reputation. Then he left.
So it seemed like Zi Hong chose not to join hence the consequences. The special team – minus Dong Han – was listening to the news while figuring out the person who filmed the clip. Xiao He said he couldn’t figure it out, but had received the e-mail. Elsewhere, Zi Hong was asking Miao Miao if she wanted to return home or follow him to find Zhang Guo Tang. She chose the second choice so they were on their way. After the news segment, Chen Jie asked if Chief Zheng wanted to bring Zi Hong in. Chief Zheng asked if Dong Han was with Zi Hong, and gave the orders to bring Zi Hong in. As Dong Han witnessed Zi Hong and Miao Miao driving away in Zi Hong’s car, he received the call from Chen Jie. Dong Han lied and said that the other two had misled him and had fled already. Chen Jie told Dong Han to get on it, and Dong Han said he got it. Back at the headquarter, Chief Zheng told Xiao He to track their cell phones while he went to call Yang Yong Zhao. As the others were going on their way, Zi Yan was still standing around thinking. Had she caught onto something? Even if she hadn’t figured out that far out conspiracy, could she possibly figure out what Dong Han was doing? Like possibly acting suspiciously during their previous get together?
Miao Miao finally received the call from her grandpa. They stopped somewhere so Miao Miao could take the call. Her grandpa was wondering if she wanted to return home. She said she knew Zi Hong was innocent so she wanted to go with him. Grandpa Yang pointed out it wasn’t as easy as she put it. The judge wouldn’t see it her way and she would be dragged in as well. She said the more she had to accompany Zi Hong. She reassured him she would be all right. How could he not worry? He wanted to talk to Zi Hong, so Miao Miao had no choice but to hand the phone over to Zi Hong. Grandpa Yang said that Chief Zheng believed Zi Hong was innocent yet things were getting complicated so he couldn’t do anything else but to proceed according to his duties. Zi Hong said he understood. Grandpa Yang told Zi Hong that it wasn’t too late to turn back. Zi Hong said he wasn’t going to turn back, and that he didn’t do anything wrong. Grandpa Yang said that fleeing would be difficult. Zi Hong said he knew. Grandpa Yang knew he couldn’t change their decisions, but told Zi Hong to use his life to protect Miao Miao. Zi Hong promised.
Zi Yan decided to interrogate Tom again. She was prepared this time. She had a recorded clip of Tom’s mom sending her regards to Tom. Tom’s mom wanted him to return home. She said she was still capable of earning money and his sister was going to work soon, so he didn’t need to get into sticky situations to get money. Tom said that the cops were so despicable with using his family against him. Zi Yan told him to listen to another clip. That next clip, his mom told him to let Zhang Guo Tang deal with the punishments, and that they didn’t need to worry about him anymore since he already got captured. She also said that the cops had promised to decrease Tom’s sentence if he were to cooperate. Surprised, Tom wanted to listen to the clip again. Zi Yan asked which part, and then she asked Tom if he didn’t know. She quickly told him how they already arrested Zhang Guo Tang earlier that day–along with some of the other henchmen.
Meanwhile, Zhang Guo Tang was somewhere eating noodles and watching the latest news segment. It was the one they’d been talking about, regarding Zi Hong destroying evidence. He soon turned off the TV and picked up his phone. It was one of his henchmen calling in to report the latest at Zi Hong’s house. Shen You Fu had returned home already. Zhang Guo Tang told them to make the move. They said that there were also two cops standing guard. Zhang Guo Tang said the more they should take action. So they did. The two gangsters went in and knocked out the two cops on guard before getting to Shen You Fu.
Zi Yan finally succeeded in convincing Tom to cooperate. Chief Zheng was proud of her. Yet he had to tell her of the bad news with Shen You Fu being kidnapped already. He said it was probably Zhang Guo Tang’s doing. He also told Zi Yan to tell Dong Han to pick her up and join them at the location. So Zi Yan suited up after getting off the phone. As she was on the way out, she tried to call Miao Miao but was unsuccessful. She told Dong Han about it when she got into the car. Dong Han seemed disturbed and reflected his bad moods when Zi Yan asked him about it. Yet they had a mission to carry out, can’t talk long. Then elsewhere, Zi Hong wanted to drop Miao Miao off. It was because he wanted Miao Miao to wait for his father and they could go together, if not, then Miao Miao should leave first. He said that if he confronted Zhang Guo Tang, he needed to do it alone. It would be harder with Miao Miao around. Miao Miao said they had guns yet Zi Hong reasoned that they wouldn’t use it since that was like signaling to the cops. Miao Miao finally got out after threatening Zi Hong to keep his promise.
Then came the confrontation. Or more like Zhang Guo Tang’s own interrogation. He, of course, wanted to ask Shen You Fu of Zi Hong’s whereabouts. He wanted to avenge his brothers’ deaths. Yet Zhang Guo Tang didn’t need to wait long. Zi Hong was on his way. (Okay, wait, how did Zi Hong know they were there? Or did Zhang Guo Tang sent out some sort of signal? Because he apparently was really unsuccessful in locating Zhang Guo Tang before hence dragging the situation until now. Or was it because of Miao Miao and all the debates that he couldn’t really get a move on the search until now?) While one of his men went outside to check on the situation, Zhang Guo Tang was saying how he and Shen You Fu used to be “dogs” for Jiang Jian Ming. But the difference between them now was he, Zhang Guo Tang, no longer was. Before he could take any action toward Shen You Fu, he heard more noises outside. He had to go and check it out for himself. When he came out, Zi Hong was in a deadlock with Paul. Zhang Guo Tang told Paul to finish Zi Hong yet at the last minute, Zi Hong managed to turn the situation around and tossed the knife toward Zhang Guo Tang, injuring his hand so he had to drop the gun. (That was seriously fake, lol. Cool in a way, but fake.) The struggle between Zi Hong and Paul continued until the cops arrived. Yet they were too late. They only discovered Paul and another dude tied up outside. No one else was there. Indeed, Zi Hong had already tied Zhang Guo Tang up and was on his way to somewhere. Zhang Guo Tang asked him why killed the other two men and if Zi Hong wanted to do the same to him. Zi Hong said he didn’t kill those guys, and that it would be too easy to kill Zhang Guo Tang off. Then back at the scene, Chief Zheng told them to send out a notice to find Zi Hong.
Then the dramatic confrontation out by the seaside. Zhang Guo Tang said that he already told them time after time that what happened 20 years ago was an accident. He also recounted that he and the other two guys (the same ones who got killed by Dong Han already) had also gone toward the hillside to check it out too, but it was too late for some people. Zi Hong, obviously, didn’t believe him. Zhang Guo Tang was done. He didn’t want to play with Zi Hong anymore. He told Zi Hong to kill him already and get it over with. Zi Hong proceeded with tying his hands and legs together and said that it was getting dark soon (i.e. high tides) so they could find out if Zhang Guo Tang was in fear or not by then. Zi Hong then went to sit safely elsewhere to wait. That was when Zhang Guo Tang started yelling for Zi Hong and demanded he return. Zi Hong didn’t return until Zhang Guo Tang finally yelled out that he would confess. Zhang Guo Tang stuck with his answer about it being an accident. Zi Hong kicked him back to drink some more water and asked him the leader behind it all (aka the person giving them the commands). Zhang Guo Tang yelled out that it was Jiang Jian Ming. Jiang Jian Ming wanted them to teach the ones who didn’t want to move a lesson yet it wasn’t to kill, it was just some warnings. So the accident was really an accident. Zi Hong didn’t want to hear more of Zhang Guo Tang’s nonsense reasons so he said he would go for a bowl of noodles before returning. Zhang Guo Tang, in his desperate attempt, yelled out if Zi Hong didn’t believe, then go ask Jiang Jian Ming for himself. What Zi Hong didn’t expect was how Zhang Guo Tang told Zi Hong to go ask his father too. That stopped Zi Hong from going so Zhang Guo Tang continued on. He said that was why Shen You Fu wanted to adopt Zi Hong because that incident was really an accident so he felt bad and wanted to make it up for Zi Hong. Zhang Guo Tang said that the three of them were outsiders so how could they know Zi Hong and the other two families. Shen You Fu was in charge of keeping watch and informing them when the three families arrive. That was when they took action and then caused the accident. Zhang Guo Tang said there were four people in charge of doing that mission, and the fourth person was Shen You Fu. Zi Hong was so riled up by Zhang Guo Tang’s words that he went back to kick him. (Wow, who was talking about not hurting others before when he was lecturing Dong Han?)
Back at the headquarter, the others were able to locate Miao Miao and Shen You Fu but no Zi Hong. Chief Zheng guessed that Zi Hong must have gone a different way with Zhang Guo Tang. He told them to send out more people to look for those two. Dong Han was nowhere to be seen either. Zi Yan said he was in the restroom, but who knows? Dong Han was indeed in the restroom, but he was checking to make sure no one was there. Before he could do anything though, he received a message from Yong Mei. She wanted to meet up the next day. He pocketed his phone again before taking the lid off of one of the toilets. He emptied the water before taking out a plastic bag – with a phone inside. (Clever. Old trick but still clever.)
So Zi Hong was still threatening Zhang Guo Tang and getting him to talk. He wanted to know what Zhang Guo Tang had that caused him to gain an upper hand with Jiang Jian Ming hence returning. Zhang Guo Tang soon blurted out “Project Jing Hai”. Zi Hong asked him about it. He said he also wanted to know. Zi Hong then asked if it had anything to do with Jiang Jian Ming. Like some of them suspected, the party in charge of the project was Jiang Jian Ming’s wife’s family. The whole fiasco of years ago had to do with Jiang Jian Ming along with his wife’s family, the Yan. It also had to do with Head Councilman Luo – or so Zhang Guo Tang said. Zi Hong said maybe he was innocent. Zhang Guo Tang said the money was already handed over. Zi Hong asked when, and the response was April 22nd. Zi Hong said if he already achieved his goal, why was he still around hurting people? He said it wasn’t so simple, and that he couldn’t return home, etc. He wanted Jiang Jian Ming to tell Head Councilman Luo to give him a guaranteed letter, and the contents would be giving him special privileges if the man were to advance toward his next rank. Zi Hong said it would be impossible for the other party to agree. Zhang Guo Tang confirmed that the other party didn’t agree hence he couldn’t end his mission. Zi Hong said it was ending now. Before he could say anything else, his phone rang. It was the phone Dong Han gave him earlier. Zhang Guo Tang then spoke up to say that he could give Zi Hong money. Zi Hong said not killing Zhang Guo Tang was already a special privilege so Zhang Guo Tang shouldn’t negotiate with him. As Zhang Guo Tang was still trying to persuade Zi Hong, Dong Han was getting impatient with attempting to make contact since Zi Hong still didn’t pick up. Zi Hong dropped Zhang Guo Tang off at the police station before leaving. Then he decided to pick up Dong Han’s call at last. Dong Han told him not to give Zhang Guo Tang up to the police because that was part of their plan with calling Zhang Guo Tang to come back (i.e. pressuring Jiang Jian Ming). But it was too late. One of the police officers had already gone out to fetch Zhang Guo Tang. (I knew it! I was right! It was Dong Han! Even if Chen Jie had to apologize to him!) OMG, really? Zi Hong went back and it was too late so he had to go again. He dared to blame it on Dong Han for not saying it out? Dong Han said that he tried to call many times already but Zi Hong didn’t pick up. Then Dong Han said that it didn’t matter anymore since he would find another way. Zi Hong pondered why they had to bring Zhang Guo Tang back. Dong Han said that he didn’t have time to explain. Zi Hong warned him not to go too far or he couldn’t return. Dong Han told Zi Hong he better worry for himself since Chen Jie was out looking for him. Dong Han told Zi Hong to flee.
Dong Han finally met up with Zi Yan and Xiao He in the control room. Zi Yan updated Dong Han on Zhang Guo Tang’s status. Xiao He was commenting on how cool it was to see Zhang Guo Tang being wrapped up like that and tossed out at the police station. Dong Han asked about Zi Hong’s whereabouts. Xiao He said that he was trying to locate Zi Hong. Zi Yan told Dong Han that they should go first. Dong Han made some comments about the signals before leaving. As Chen Jie and Ah Gang were trying to decide on their next location, Xiao He was finally able to locate Zi Hong so they were on their way.
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
It seemed like a victory for Zi Hong’s side since Miao Miao and Mr. Shen ended up preparing a meal that night while Zi Hong watched nearby. Yet after dinner, Miao Miao took Zi Hong on a walk and said the ones who helped him weren’t just Chairman Jiang or Head Councilman Luo, but there was also Jia Yuan. Miao Miao told Zi Hong what Jia Yuan had done despite revealing all of the most controversial stuff in front of all those people. After saying all those, Miao Miao wanted Zi Hong to go see Jia Yuan the following day and reveal about his real relations to Jia Yuan so Jia You wouldn’t end up falling too deep.
Meanwhile elsewhere, Chairman Jiang was questioning Jia Yuan about the money that Zi Hong borrowed from him earlier. Jia Yuan realized that the check was from Chairman Jiang. Chairman Jiang then asked why Jia Yuan didn’t accept it. Jia Yuan said it was her father’s debt so she couldn’t let someone else pay it off for her. Chairman Jiang offered to pay the debt off for her. She was indeed surprised, asking him why. Chairman Jiang said because she was his granddaughter’s coworker and also Zi Hong’s friend. He went on to say that she indeed helped Zi Hong a lot earlier that day. She said it was just her dumb move and the cops didn’t believe her anyway. Yet Chairman Jiang said that it was because she liked Zi Hong. She asked him to not talk about that matter because her brother was waiting for her. Chairman Jiang wanted her to allow him to help her, so he would be sending her the check the following day. She once again thanked him for his good intention before turning down his offer. He asked her why. She paused briefly before saying that she didn’t want to owe others too much. She thanked him once again, even thanking the rest of his family, for treating her and her brother so well. She stated that she didn’t want any checks. She wanted to solve her own matters. Then she left.
The confrontation with Hua Jie was inevitable. Jia Yuan had to send Xuan Xuan to the neighbors before talking to Hua Jie. Jia Yuan indeed got a good scolding from it. Jia Yuan apologized yet Hua Jie said it wasn’t enough. Hua Jie wanted to know what type of person Zi Hong was and Jia Yuan’s relation to him hence her lying fiasco. It wasn’t enough for Hua Jie to cool down. It wasn’t until Jia Yuan asked about the ‘client’ that Hua Jie talked about previously and wondered if the offer was still open. Hua Jie told Jia Yuan not to cause any more trouble before leaving with one of her henchmen.
Before long, Hua Jie was seen meeting up with Zhang Guo Tang. She was reporting to him about Zi Hong and Jia Yuan. A coincidence or some preplanned thing? Well, it could just be a coincidence since Zhang Guo Tang didn’t know of Zi Hong’s existence until now. Or did it? Anyway, through their conversation, it seemed like Zhang Guo Tang and Hua Jie knew each other quite well, so it wasn’t just some loose connection that he managed to find of recent. Then their conversation moved toward Zi Hong. Hua Jie was asking if Zhang Guo Tang really wanted to kill Zi Hong. Zhang Guo Tang said that seeking out Zi Hong would be dumb, but if he forced Zi Hong to go looking for him, it would be smarter. Hua Jie asked him what he meant. He said he wanted to use ‘Joy’ as the bait. Hua Jie seemed really worried and told Zhang Guo Tang not to hurt someone as kind and as pitiful as Jia Yuan. It seemed like she really cared for Jia Yuan or was she just worried about the debts not being paid off? But Zhang Guo Tang was asking if Hua Jie didn’t trust him. He said Jia Yuan wouldn’t be hurt. Because of Hua Jie’s persistence, it had roused Zhang Guo Tang up. He yelled out how two of his good brothers were dead already and it was only right that he avenged them. Those two had ended up going to prison for him and he didn’t get the chance to pay them back for it yet they were dead already. He owed it up to them.
Zi Yan and Dong Han were having a little night meeting. She was asking him if he’d believed Zi Hong. He did. She asked him why, but he didn’t answer. Not exactly. He pointed out that she also believed him. She admitted it. He wanted to listen to her reasoning. She said she just believed so, lol. Then they were mocking each other, lol. She was teasing him, saying how he looked a lot cuter when he smiled so he should smile more. Their little romantic get together was soon interrupted by Yong Mei’s text to Zi Yan, asking where Dong Han was. Yong Mei then asked if Zi Yan was busy. The upcoming messages said it was all right if Zi Yan was busy because Zi Yan could just message her when Zi Yan wasn’t as busy. Yong Mei disclosed that she met a really cute kid earlier that day, and wanted to tell them about it, etc. Dong Han wasn’t the least bit amused by the situation. In fact, he seemed upset. Zi Yan, on the other hand, was a bit amused by it since she read the messages. But it wasn’t like she was oblivious to Dong Han’s moods. She nudged him and asked if he was upset. He said it was nothing before getting up to leave. She called him back, saying if he wasn’t going to respond to Yong Mei, she would. He said it was up to her before heading off. She smiled.
Zi Hong finally sought out Jia Yuan to talk. She started first, saying that she’d already heard all the thanks so she didn’t need to hear it from him too. Soon, they found a spot to sit down. Jia Yuan told Zi Hong that she was going to go with the Japanese guy for half a year. He had agreed to let Xuan Xuan come along as well so after that half a year, she was free to start anew again. Zi Hong finally spoke up, telling her that she was his sister. She said she knew, but he said she didn’t know. He soon launched into explaining to her of their relation. Jia Yuan’s father initially came to the foster home and sought out Zi Hong, wanting to adopt him. The man thought that Zi Hong’s mother still had some money left, but after learning that there wasn’t much, he left. Jia Yuan had to admit that sounded like what her father would do. Zi Hong said because of the man, he found out about Jia Yuan and Xuan Xuan. Zi Hong then gave Jia Yuan a photo of his mother and him when he was younger. He asked her who that was. She said it was Xuan Xuan. Zi Hong corrected her by saying that was him, and the lady in the picture was his mother. He disclosed more to her about his childhood nickname, etc. She couldn’t believe it. He said his reaction when he first saw Xuan Xuan was the same as hers. He said if they weren’t blood relations, Xuan Xuan wouldn’t look so much like him. She asked him why he didn’t tell her sooner. He hesitated a bit before saying he didn’t dare to. She asked why. He said it was because he wanted to seek out Zhang Guo Tang. If Zhang Guo Tang knew her link to him, she would definitely be in danger. She said so it was all to protect her. He said he thought so yet he realized that he was wrong because he had caused greater pain toward her. Jia Yuan asked him if he was just joking with her at the moment. He said he wasn’t messing around. She finally understood why he cared so much for her all along. She returned the wallet to him before getting up to leave. She stopped and mumbled about how it was just caring for her (because of their relation) and not because of liking her, and that she understood why she couldn’t like him. She finally broke down and tearfully confessed of her initial sin. She said she thought if one day Zi Hong and Miao Miao broke up, she could still wait until Zi Hong healed and started over, so she could accompany him. Yet now even that little hope (even if it was wrong to think so) had turned into nothing. Jia Yuan finally turned around to face Zi Hong again, saying that their father had left a long time ago already, but if Xuan Xuan knew that he still had a brother who was his favorite teacher, he would be very happy. But what about her? She chided him for being cruel before leaving at last. (Because she rather he came up with a more unbelievable lie than telling her this truth.) Zi Hong soon called her up (almost like that one time when she called him up to talk). He said that he was dumb, not knowing what to say, but he asked her not to go to Japan with that one dude. She said there was no other way. He said he was worried for hers and Xuan Xuan’s safety, considering how she went to the police station so Zhang Guo Tang must have known. She said it was all right because Hua Jie had a lot of people so they could protect her. She said Zhang Guo Tang wouldn’t chase her down in Japan, and that he should be the one taking caution. He said he would be fine. He said he would be waiting for her and Xuan Xuan’s return. He also told her not to wait for her father’s return anymore, that she and Xuan Xuan still have him and Miao Miao as family. She made sure that Miao Miao was all right with that before saying that she would think it over. Then they hung up.
When Zi Hong returned home, he found Dong Han waiting for him. He was wondering if Dong Han was there to protect him or spy on him. Dong Han said both, so Zi Hong teased him for being too honest, having no future. Joking aside, Dong Han said he heard Miao Miao say Zi Hong was looking for him. Zi Hong invited him inside before having the talk. Dong Han confessed that he actually wanted to seek out Zi Hong a long time already. He wanted Zi Hong to listen to a song. He played the clip from “The New World” (新世界). After a while, it finally clicked in for Zi Hong, considering how it wasn’t one of the clips that they’d acquired from the cards or anything. Zi Hong finally blurted out “Xi Shuai.” Dong Han said that he knew Zi Hong still remembered the song because he still remembered. Zi Hong ended up hugging Dong Han. Indeed, it was a touching reunion for them. It had been 20 years already. It wasn’t like how it was with Miao Miao, and how he tracked her down ages back already. Zi Hong finally let go of Dong Han and asked about Dong Han’s well being all these years. Dong Han said he was fine. Zi Hong said he’d been looking for them all these years but couldn’t find them. Dong Han admitted that he’d been looking for them too. Zi Hong asked Dong Han about Xiao Cao. Dong Han disclosed that she wasn’t with him, but he tried to track her down. He only heard that she was quite well off, but wasn’t able to track down her current name or her whereabouts. He also heard that she didn’t want to be disturbed. He didn’t know what that meant, but he soon took out a note that Xiao Cao had sent along through someone to him. Those words came from a poem or some kind of idiom. Another phrase followed it, which indicated that she didn’t want to be reminded of the past. After some choked up feelings, Zi Hong told Dong Han what happened when he realized his mother didn’t recognize him. He reassured himself that he still had Xi Shuai and Xiao Cao yet when he returned to the foster home, they were already gone. He apologized for not keeping his promise. Dong Han told him it wasn’t his responsibility, because he said he also promised Xiao Cao yet he wasn’t able to carry out that promise either. Then they were back to deciphering Xiao Cao’s message. Zi Hong wondered if she hated them, because of the broken promise. Dong Han said he didn’t know, and that he didn’t care what she thought. He said they were still very little then and couldn’t control much of anything, even their names. Yet now they were all grown up, so it didn’t matter if Xiao Cao didn’t want to be part of them, there were still the three of them.
So it was only right that Zi Hong took Dong Han to see Miao Miao. Of course, Miao Miao didn’t know what was going on when Zi Hong told her he wanted her to see an old friend. But then Dong Han took out the pinwheel that Miao Miao recognized it. Dong Han soon told her about the first day he arrived and how he spotted her, etc. It was then that Miao Miao dared to hope and believe that the person standing in front of her was one of her childhood friends. She then asked him about the wooden tags. He admitted that he was the one hanging the wooden tags on the trees. She finally hugged him, blurting out that she really missed him, missed all of them. So after that emotional reunion, Miao Miao settled down to play with her pinwheel while the guys watched. After that, she turned to chide both guys for being petty, not even disclosing their whereabouts or even gave her a clue. Dong Han apologized to her yet she said she was happy to know he was Xi Shuai. Miao Miao was just pondering why Dong Han had to keep the secret. Before Dong Han could answer, his phone vibrated. The call was from Yong Mei. He excused himself yet Zi Hong stopped him, saying that he also wanted to know regarding Miao Miao’s question. Dong Han said that even the special team didn’t know about his true identity, asking them to keep it a secret for him. He then turned to Zi Hong with a serious look, saying that what Zi Hong wanted, he also wanted. Yup, Zhang Guo Tang. It wasn’t just Zhang Guo Tang though, because Dong Han stated that Zhang Guo Tang was just a little pawn. There had to be someone behind him, giving the commands. So that was Dong Han’s target. Yet Dong Han told Zi Hong to be even more careful because he said he had a gun and Zi Hong didn’t. It was also because Zi Hong had become bait, and he wasn’t. He once again told Zi Hong to be careful before leaving. Miao Miao got up from her seat after Dong Han left and told Zi Hong of her suspicions, saying how Dong Han had initially told her to not worry since Zi Hong was innocent. Miao Miao was pondering how Dong Han could be so sure. Zi Hong was really thinking it over.
Dong Han finally went to see Yong Mei. She asked why he didn’t pick up or return her text messages. He told her that if she had anything to say, she should say it quickly since he only had a minute. Yet she said that Chen Jie said otherwise, but he cut her off before she could go on any further. After a little staring, she asked him what was wrong. He said that it was all right that she didn’t understand the first time around since he could just tell her the second time and also the last time. He said that he was a very dangerous person, dangerous to the point that she couldn’t even imagine. He continued by saying that there was no relationship or no any type of new beginning for them regardless, whether at the present or the future. He told her not to contact him anymore, whether it was through calling or messaging him. Most importantly, she shouldn’t use his superiors to pressure him into showing up like today. Then he left.
Then the unpredictable came. Or more like it was inevitable, considering what happened previously. Zhang Guo Tang and his henchman finally sought Jia Yuan out. After Zhang Guo Tang introduced himself, Jia Yuan pretended to not knowing him by making light conversation. She asked if they had somehow met before. He said they hadn’t. She then asked if he was Hua Jie’s friend. He said they were old friends. He then assured her that they wouldn’t hurt her. Elsewhere, Zi Hong and Miao Miao were talking. Zi Hong mentioned his conversation with Jia Yuan. Miao Miao was so happy–if Jia Yuan were to agree with them. Then Zi Hong looked across the streets, where Chen Jie and Ah Gang were spying in their car. Then back in the other car, Jia Yuan finally mustered up the courage to ask Zhang Guo Tang where they were going. He said that when they arrived, she would know. She, of course, couldn’t wait. She made up an excuse with needing to use the restroom, asking if he could stop at the next gas station. They did stop at a gas station, but Zhang Guo Tang had given her a warning. He told her that Hua Jie really liked her so she shouldn’t call the cops or try to run. She said she knew. He wasn’t so trusting–and told her to leave her cell phone behind. And it wasn’t like he became trusting then because he had let one of the henchmen followed her inside. Then they were back after a few minutes. She actually thanked them and apologized for the inconvenience. On the way, she asked Zhang Guo Tang if he wanted to go after Zi Hong. No one answered, not even Paul (the guy who was in charge of watching her). Her expression told them that she didn’t care. Or if they took the time to glance. Because what she did next was more shocking than any one of them could imagine. She had opened the car door abruptly and tossed herself out. Paul yelled for the driver to stop the car, but they were too late. When they got out, some other drivers on the road had stopped and tended to Jia Yuan. She was severely injured by the looks of it. Paul wanted to take a shot, but Zhang Guo Tang stopped him, telling him to go. The drivers had started calling for help. They needed to leave immediately. So while Zi Hong and Miao Miao were questioning a shop-owner, Xiao He called Chen Jie and told him to tell Zi Hong regarding Jia Yuan’s matter. Chen Jie had no choice but to expose himself and rushed to tell Zi Hong and Miao Miao of the news.
They all met up at the hospital. Dong Han was actually there before, talking to the doctor about the situation. When the others arrived, he had to tell them of the news. They definitely had to do an operation for Jia Yuan, and Zi Hong and Miao Miao were just in time. Jia Yuan was awake and actually got to talk to them. Jia Yuan said that she just had a dream of her father returning and that Xuan Xuan was really happy. Then she said if she didn’t make it, don’t let Xuan Xuan know. She said to only let Xuan Xuan know of Zi Hong’s identity. Zi Hong told her that she would be fine and that Xuan Xuan would be waiting for her return.
Meanwhile, the others were discussing the case. Chief Zheng was asking if it was Zhang Guo Tang. Zi Yan said it wasn’t confirmed since the people who found Jia Yuan couldn’t be sure, considering the distance. Soon, Chief Zheng received a call. The others waited until he was done before asking. Chief Zheng hesitated before saying that the call was from Dong Han. The operation ended already, but Jia Yuan didn’t make it. Tragic indeed. Chief Zheng blamed himself for his inability to seek out Zhang Guo Tang thus causing more people to be hurt. The others could only watch in silence as Chief Zheng walked away.
Then Dong Han had to break the tragic news to Zi Hong and Miao Miao at the hospital. After that, Dong Han handed Zi Hong a bag containing a cell phone. Dong Han asked if the others wanted to open it to see if Jia Yuan had left anything behind. Zi Hong said it could wait since they needed to pick Xuan Xuan up from school. And Jia Yuan indeed left them a message on her cell phone. (The tricky thing was how she handed over the cell phone cover earlier so it might look like there was something in there but there actually wasn’t.) She left a video clip that she had filmed while she was in the restroom. They watched the clip while waiting in front of Xuan Xuan’s classroom. Xuan Xuan was still inside singing with the others so they were safe. Jia Yuan, in the clip, told them that she agreed with their arrangement of being a family so they couldn’t take it back. Yet she had said that if she didn’t make it, she told them not to tell Xuan Xuan. She wanted them to take the grass necklace and give it to Xuan Xuan, saying that she had traveled to a faraway place already. After a few more words and the mentioning of her helping them this time so they were even with how they would help her with watching over Xuan Xuan, she signed off. They took Xuan Xuan to Yong Mei’s house, but only temporarily since Zi Hong said after they were done taking care of stuff, they would come and pick Xuan Xuan up. Yong Mei promised to look after Xuan Xuan, but told Zi Hong not to let Miao Miao worry, telling him to let go of his revenge plan. He didn’t say anything but just left.
When Zi Hong came out, Dong Han was sitting in the car waiting for him. Dong Han told Zi Hong not to worry since Chief Zheng had already sent someone to Zi Hong’s house to protect his father. When Dong Han asked Zi hong of his upcoming plans, Zi Hong responded with taking care of the necessary steps for Jia Yuan and Xuan Xuan, etc. Dong Han said that Zi Hong knew he wasn’t asking about that. Zi Hong asked Dong Han which identity was Dong Han using to ask him, Xi Shuai or Liu Dong Han. Dong Han replied as both. Zi Hong told him not to ask since he didn’t want to put Dong Han into a hard spot. Zi Hong was about to walk away but Dong Han told him that someone wanted to see him. Zi Hong turned around to ask who, but Dong Han said that Zi Hong would know tomorrow when he saw that person. He said it was very important before waving Zi Hong off. After Zi Hong left, Zi Yan arrived. She got out of the car and spotted him, so she sent him a smile. He returned the smile before rolling his window up and driving away.
Inside, they were talking about Dong Han while somewhat watching Xuan Xuan nearby, playing with one of the maids. Yong Mei was obviously upset that Dong Han didn’t come in. Miao Miao tried to comfort Yong Mei, saying that she tried to get Dong Han to come in yet he didn’t. Yong Mei said that she was going to tell him something important yet he didn’t give her a chance. That got Zi Yan worried. What was she supposed to do?

The episode entered with Miao Miao preparing her breakfast and heading out the door. She thanked her bodyguards before getting in the car and heading to an unknown location. However, she was still griping over the stolen kiss, and how she didn’t stop Zi Hong previously. And she was also back to thinking about Zhang Guo Tang and the other matter, especially how she’d been targeted. She stopped herself from thinking any further about Zi Hong’s matters and forced herself to focus on driving. Before long, it was revealed that she was investigating Project Jing Hai. It was unfruitful, considering how that file was locked. Meanwhile, Zi Hong was looking for Jia Yuan at work, wondering why she wasn’t there. According to another coworker, Jia Yuan had asked for a long break.
Back at the secret headquarter, the team was discussing the recent murder. Chen Jie, of course, was the one presenting the case. After Chen Jie’s presenting of evidence and reports from the lab, Chief Zheng was pondering if it was Zhang Guo Tang getting rid of his own people. Zi Yan jumped in to say that it could possibly be Jiang Jian Ming. Ah Gang agreed with Zi Yan. He said that considering how Jiang Jian Ming had a lot of friends, whether the law-abiding type or the ones within the gangs. Then there was the whole thing with Zhang Guo Tang attacking Jiang Jian Ming time after time with different tactics, so it would make sense that Jiang Jian Ming wanted to take action. Xiao He finally got his chance to talk, saying that he had already found the song in the card, it was indeed the song “The New World” (新世界). What he found strange was how cards were usually having birthday or Christmas songs, but this type of card, it was the first time he saw it. They were saying how the card could either be left there by accident or on purpose. While Chen Jie was inputting his thoughts, he immediately turned to Dong Han. Indeed, a flashback revealed the reason for Dong Han being disturbed. The others finally turned to look at Dong Han as well. Chief Zheng was asking Dong Han for his views. He didn’t have anything to say about it. Chen Jie was still glaring him down. Yet Dong Han didn’t care to pay attention. he was very troubled by now. Chief Zheng said regardless of the reason or its details, they still had to turn it over to the local station. Their main goal was Zhang Guo Tang so they had to figure out his moves soon. Chen Jie and Ah Gang were in charge of seeking out Zhang Guo Tang while Dong Han and Zi Yan were responsible for Yong Mei’s safety. They had to increase their vigilance even more from now on. After saying that, Chief Zheng dismissed them, considering how he had to seek out Jiang Jian Ming.
And just like that, Chen Jie and Dong Han were once again in another face-off. Chief Zheng barely left and Dong Han was just making a move yet Chen Jie stop him to interrogate. Zi Yan, Ah Gang, and Xiao He were really feeling the hectic atmosphere of the room once again. Chen Jie asked Dong Han to whom the phone number actually belonged. Dong Han was wondering what Chen Jie was up to again. Chen Jie said that the records didn’t show that Dong Han had called home. Dong Han turned to ask Xiao He if he had a look. Xiao He, fearing Dong Han’s wrath, told Dong Han that he was just following Chen Jie’s order. Chen Jie told Dong Han not to lead them around in circles anymore. He said that the number was registered by a false name, so Dong Han should just tell him. He continued on by asking if that false name was Zhang Guo Tang. Dong Han smirked, asking if Chen Jie really wanted to go there. He told Chen Jie if Chen Jie really wanted to know, then go investigate on his own. Chen Jie said it would be much simpler if Dong Han would just cooperate and say it out. Dong Han had on his taunting look by now, saying that Chen Jie didn’t make things easier before with suspecting him and not trusting fellow cops. He told Chen Jie that life wasn’t just simple yes or no. He went on to lay out the choices for Chen Jie to choose, whether he, Liu Dong Han, was the mole. He repeated his previous suggestion, telling Chen Jie to go investigate on his own if Chen Jie really wanted to know the truth. Chen Jie said if Dong Han wanted to do that, then he was willing. Dong Han taunted Chen Jie again, he told Chen Jie to go ahead. Zi Yan finally got up from her desk and interfered, telling the guys to knock it off. She also told Chen Jie that she wanted to withdraw her previous suspicion regarding the mole. Chen Jie asked if she was playing him. She said if he didn’t want to before turning to Dong Han, asking him to whom that phone number belonged. Dong Han turned her down as well, saying that he couldn’t do that. She said if he couldn’t do it, then great, she would use her way to solve it. She asked Chen Jie the number once again, and Chen Jie actually obliged. What Zi Yan did next, shocked Chen Jie so much that he thought she was crazy. What did she do? She dialed the number. (LOL!) She said it would be faster that way rather than keep guessing, and they would finally get an answer. Chen Jie asked her what if it was Zhang Guo Tang. She said they would still know before shutting Chen Jie up. A woman answered the phone and Zi Yan pretended to be someone taking surveys from citizens. The woman on the phone told Zi Yan she was busy so she couldn’t help. Zi Yan apologized and hung up before turning to ask who that person was. Dong Han played it smack by saying maybe it was Zhang Guo Tang’s woman, lol. He gave Chen Jie an encouraging clap on the shoulder before saying that Chen Jie should quickly investigate since everyone was depending on his answer. He added that he wasn’t going to flee, he was waiting for Chen Jie to come and get him. Then he left. After that, Zi Yan turned to Chen Jie, asking if that was enough already. She went on to say if Chen Jie didn’t think that was enough, she could go and ask if that person was Dong Han’s mother or sister or someone else in his family. She could exhaust all the questions for Chen Jie, if he wanted. She said that it was more than enough already before leaving as well. Chen Jie was more than pissed off because of how the situation turned out. He turned to ask Ah Gang and Xiao He if they thought he was wrong as well. Ah Gang did the ‘X’ symbol with his hands, stating that Chen Jie shouldn’t ask him before leaving the room. Xiao He, being the only one left, totally felt the pressure of answering. He said he didn’t know who was right or wrong yet he didn’t like how things turned out at all. He was forced to leave as well, knowing that the intensity of the atmosphere was too thick, even if the others were already gone.
Zi Yan found Dong Han at their ‘isolated’ meeting place. She settled down next to him before asking if the woman on the phone was his mother. He didn’t answer at first, still pulling the long face. She asked if he was hiding that from her as well. He soon responded and told her yes, it was his mother. He went on further by disclosing her health condition and how she was still working. He also said that what his mother feared the most was receiving a call regarding him. Zi Yan said that her father was the same when he heard that she was going to become a cop. Yes, both parents feared that they would receive the call telling them that their children had died on duty. Zi Yan tried to make light of the situation by mimicking the call, and they laughed about it. Yet Dong Han soon turned serious and told her about his childhood, and how he’d always seen his mother making Christmas lights. Although she made Christmas lights, they had never had a Christmas tree at their place. However, his mother did take him to see public Christmas trees, where the lights were already placed on there nicely, sparkling. Upon seeing the lights shining brightly on the trees, she was very satisfied and very proud of her work. Zi Yan said that her father was the same, but with his culinary skills. Zi Yan ended up taking over the cooking tasks, but her father seemed very proud. Yet she said she could no longer see him smile, because he had already left. A brief silence between them before Dong Han asked her had she ever thought if one day she died, what would happen? She said she would live to be one hundred, and he will as well. Then later when they were on one of their missions to protect Yong Mei, Zi Yan texted Dong Han while they were in the car, saying that they would definitely live on to be one hundred. He texted her back and told her not to text during their mission. YET texted her again about a minute later telling her that they didn’t need to live to be one hundred, he could still like her. And that had made her smile. Still later, he was seen staring at Zi Yan and smiling when he saw her smile while watching Miao Miao and Jia Yuan bicker. (Or was he?)
Zi Hong came home to see Miao Miao waiting for him after a trip to see Chairman Jiang, wanting to lend some money. She told him she tried to investigate Project Jing Hai yet it was like he said, it was locked. She also said that the lady there promised to help her think of a way. He asked her if she still wanted to investigate. She said she still wanted to, because she wanted to know the truth and also because she trusted her grandfather. She then confronted him about that one time, asking him the real reason why he didn’t shake her grandfather’s hand – whether it was because he couldn’t due to his injury or because he didn’t want to. He didn’t answer. She then asked him about how long he’d scorched through, investigating her grandfather. He said since high school. She said that it meant he’d knew where they resided at yet didn’t meet up with her. He said that he didn’t like it that he was being interrogated, and she said she didn’t like it either. Soon, he said that he didn’t know if he had a future or anything to think about love or involve anyone. She wanted him to admit that he liked her, so he did. She then broke down, saying that she was so scared of what happened–and that her grandfather had said if the injury wasn’t on his hand, it would’ve been at his heart. She didn’t know why she didn’t apologize and thank him yet just kept yelling at him. Then when he took her to see his mother, she wanted to say thank you yet she wasn’t able to. She asked him if he was all right with her being so temperamental. He said he didn’t mind since he was even worst, so he wasn’t scared. Then they went to the forest again to check out the trees. She asked him if he could guess who had placed the wooden tags on the trees. He said it had to be Xi Shuai – and she agreed because Xi Shuai’s father was a woodcarver. She said she didn’t know where Xi Shuai was, but was wondering why he’d placed those wooden tags on there. Zi Hong said that Xi Shuai must have seen the news articles that she did, and had returned already hence doing so. Xi Shuai wanted them to know that he’d returned and still remembered them. Miao Miao said it was her grandfather that had sparked her inspiration with doing those memorial articles. She told Zi Hong not to be suspicious of him anymore. Zi Hong stayed quiet again, but Miao Miao said she would find a way to make him believe in her grandfather, just like how she believed him. She then said that she would help him investigate the truth regarding the incident of 20 years ago, but asked him to promise her not to go seek out Zhang Guo Tang on his own. He didn’t trust cops. She asked him why, but he didn’t answer exactly, just saying that he didn’t want to argue with her. She sighed out in exasperation before asking if it had to do with her grandfather. He said perhaps there was and perhaps not. She didn’t know why he kept picking on her grandfather. He said her grandfather was the first one to sign hence allowing others to follow so it was suspicious. After all that was said and done, he found it hard to trust anyone, especially the cops. She said that it seemed like he didn’t trust her either. He said he believed her, that he truly believed her. Yet she said it seemed like he was still keeping her in the dark regarding different matters. In the end, he told her that he was very happy to hear her call his mother “Mom”, and said that it seemed like the past Miao Miao had returned. He told her that if he wanted to go see his mother from now on, to go ahead, but wait for a certain day. She asked him what he meant. It seemed like he was driving her away again. He aggravated her on purpose by telling her if she wanted to leave, just leave. She questioned whether he really liked her or just the past her because of their childhood memories. He said maybe so, and received a slap from her after he mocked the kiss of that one time. She said she wasn’t leaving either, saying she wanted to wait and see if he would leave (aka giving up on the idea of going against Zhang Guo Tang on his own). He left after saying that they didn’t need to say goodbye.
Chief Zheng finally confronted Jiang Jian Ming. He went straight out asking if it had anything to do with Jiang Jian Ming. Chairman Jiang laughed and said that if Chief Zheng thought he was the killing type. No, Chief Zheng meant there were many people he knew. Chairman Jiang laughed again, a little louder this time, asking if Chief Zheng meant that he had paid some hired gun to do the deed. Chief Zheng said he only wanted to ask as part of the routine. Chairman Jiang asked if Chief Zheng didn’t believe him. Chief Zheng said that since it was a complicated matter, it couldn’t be disposed of just because someone said so. Chairman Jiang was definitely insulted. He said his answer was obvious, telling Shen You Fu to escort Chief Zheng out. Chief Zheng attempted to get through him but failed. He finally said even if he believed Chairman Jiang, Zhang Guo Tang might not. Chairman Jiang asked him what he meant. Chief Zheng quickly explained that if Zhang Guo Tang suspected him, he had to be very careful from now on. Then Chief Zheng told Shen You Fu that he didn’t need anyone showing him the way out, he knew. So he left.
Then came Zi Hong’s confrontation with Jia Yuan. He handed Jia Yuan an envelope, telling her to return to work tomorrow. It was the check, containing the money he lent from Jiang Jian Ming earlier. She asked where the money came from, and he said it wasn’t important, because it was hers now. She could use that money to end a certain thing. She asked him again where he lent it from, and he told her not to mind it. She asked him about how he was going to repay it with his current wage, and if she had to pay it back with him. He said she didn’t have to, only he would be paying the money back. She asked if he was pitying her, and he said no. She then asked if he was apologizing for what he’d said to her that night, and he also said no. She leaned into him and asked if he wanted to sleep with her. He told her not to joke around like that. She said what if she wanted to. He told her to knock it off, pay off her debts, and then return to work tomorrow before leaving. She stopped him, saying she hadn’t agreed. She said with her, she could repay the money in several months yet he had to use his whole life and couldn’t repay it. She wasn’t going to let him waste his youth like that. He told her to knock it off or he would get mad. She taunted by saying that he actually looked quite cute when he was mad before tearing the check-up. He went ballistic, yelling at her and asking her what she was doing. She hugged him, telling him not to be mad since she knew he was just worried for her. She had already accepted his concern yet she said it was enough, begging him not to force her anymore. He asked her if what she said to him that night was a message for him to help her, because the others were forcing her to continue taking ‘cases’. She said it wasn’t. She said she was just saying that. He said if he had known, and she said it wasn’t so. She finally let go of him and retrieved pieces of the check on the floor. He said that he would go get another one yet she told him not to. He said if she didn’t want to accept it, he could always go straight to the others and talk to them. She asked him if she was speaking a foreign language hence him not understanding, because she said that he wasn’t the only one knowing how to get mad, she was capable of it too. She wanted to rely on herself, regardless of the consequences. Yet she said the others had told her that if she was willing to go to Japan on a special assignment, they could cut her debt back quickly, and she could even earn enough for a new house for her and Xuan Xuan. Yet she had turned them down. So she told Zi Hong if he kept doing that, she might end up changing her mind. She ended the conversation by saying that she didn’t care about the check because money wasn’t what she wanted, but what she wanted he couldn’t give her. No one could save her at that point except herself.
Meanwhile elsewhere, Zhang Guo Tang was sending off his good brother by burning a set of tux and a promise to seek out the killers. He said he would make them pay one by one. So it wasn’t too out of it when he and his brothers were out casing the joint the next day. And indeed, he was ready to make a move regardless. He called his ‘cop’ friend to check on the situation, asking if that person was making a move or not.
So when Zi Yan caught Chen Jie on the phone with someone, it wasn’t too out of character to ask him about it. He said he didn’t need to report to her. She said that was true since he was the team leader, not Liu Dong Han. Yet she also said that it seemed like it wasn’t the same phone he often used. He said the superiors had given that phone to him so it was easier to report back and for safety measures. He asked if Zi Yan still had other suspicions. She said she didn’t. Then she handed him new paperwork, saying that Yong Mei wanted to go out later. He looked at the paper and said he thought that Mrs. Luo forbade all activities at the moment. Zi Yan said that Yong Mei insisted so Mrs. Luo couldn’t do anything about it. Chen Jie told her to go, but be extra careful, especially keeping an eye out for Dong Han. Zi Yan asked if Dong Han was also going. Chen Jie said if it wasn’t for Yong Mei and Zi Yan’s persistence in speaking up for Dong Han, he already got kicked out. So Chen Jie said whatever happens later, Zi Yan would be responsible for it.
Jia Yuan arrived at the newspaper place the next day in time to overhear Miao Miao’s conversation with Yong Mei. Jia Yuan tried to focus on her task at the computer, narrowing down the problem to the loose cable before firing the computer up once again. Miao Miao was confiding in Yong Mei with how perhaps Zi Hong never cared for her, but only their childhood memories. It got Yong Mei worried. Yet Miao Miao soon moved on to tease Yong Mei with liking Dong Han. Yong Mei ended up being conned by Miao Miao with admitting that she indeed liked Dong Han. Miao Miao asked her if Dong Han knew. Yong Mei said not yet but he will know today. So after some more random teasing and a set of concerned advice from Miao Miao, the two hung up. It wasn’t until then that Miao Miao realized that she hadn’t lost the article from the previous day and how Jia Yuan was there. Jia Yuan said that she stopped by immediately to save the day. The two joked awhile more before settling down again.
At the charity event, Dong Han and Zi Yan accompanied Yong Mei and kept caution at all times. It seemed to go quite well until Chen Jie showed up and said that he wasn’t going to leave her alone to fend, considering how they were a team. Zi Yan said that Dong Han was also part of their team. Chen Jie didn’t seem to think so. He was back with keeping an eye on Dong Han.
Yet Yong Mei had other plans. She took Dong Han upstairs to a more quiet location to talk. She asked him if he thought it was senseless. She admitted that it was senseless too yet she still wanted to come. He asked her why. He quickly retaliated and said it was all right that she didn’t want to say it. It was better off that they returned home anyway. Yet she smiled and turned to face him. She said that it was because of him. He asked her what she meant. She pulled his earpiece out and said she didn’t want anyone to disturb them. And then just like that Zi Yan was searching for them both and asking where Dong Han was. Even Chen Jie and Ah Gang were on the search for them. (Nice, it gave Chen Jie a chance to nab at Dong Han.) Now it was Chen Jie’s turn to call out for Dong Han, telling him to answer. Then they separated again to go in different directions and continue the search. And then it was back to the conversation with Dong Han and Yong Mei again. Or more like it was Yong Mei still talking and Dong Han looked like he was weighing his options. Anyway, Yong Mei was saying how she’d fallen in love in the past, but ended up getting hurt because that person didn’t love her, only her background. She continued by saying that she’d promised herself that if she were to fall in love again, she would choose for herself. She then checked in with Dong Han, and asked if he understood. He said he hoped he had misunderstood. She said he didn’t, because the person she was referring to was him. She said that she hoped he didn’t mind her straightforward personality, and he said he didn’t mind. She interrupted by saying it was all right that he didn’t like her since they could start all over again at zero. He asked her if it was because he’d saved her. She said it wasn’t. He finished his sentence by saying that was just his duty. She said what she saw was his bravery. Then when he comforted her that one time regarding the newspaper, she saw his gentleness. He said he wasn’t that good of a person like she made him out to be. She said that time will tell. He finally had to cut her off by saying that it was against his duties. She said she could wait until after his mission was finished. He said that he would leave immediately afterward. She said it couldn’t be too far. She said that she won’t force him into giving her a chance yet she would work harder to convince him. He still didn’t say anything, so she thought it was good enough, considering how he didn’t outright say no. And that was also when Zi Yan arrived at the scene, seeing them so close. Well, they were standing close, not being intimate or anything. Yong Mei, hearing Zi Yan’s footsteps, turned around and apologized for going off like that. She said that she just needed some fresh air. That was also when Dong Han turned around, looking guiltily at Zi Yan. Zi Yan’s only reaction was pointing toward her own earpiece, indicating that Dong Han wasn’t wearing his. Dong Han wasn’t the one adjusting his earpiece back in but it was Yong Mei doing the deed, which caused another reaction from Zi Yan. That reaction was shocked beyond words, because Dong Han didn’t bother stopping Yong Mei or stepping away from her. Yong Mei apologized after that, saying it was her fault so Zi Yan shouldn’t chide him. He walked over to Zi Yan after Yong Mei left, still displaying the guilty look. She didn’t say anything to him, but just turned and left.
Chen Jie was so giving Dong Han an earful, saying how even if Yong Mei didn’t understand or know, Dong Han should know better. Before long, Dong Han told Chen Jie to shut up. (LOL!) Chen Jie asked Dong Han to repeat it. Dong Han told him that someone was carrying a gun. Dong Han went on by saying that they shouldn’t injure the innocents so it was better to lure the other person outside. Chen Jie asked how. Dong Han said that Chen Jie, Ah Gang, and Zi Yan should escort Yong Mei out so the other person would follow. Dong Han said that he would fallback. Chen Jie wanted to stick with Dong Han. Dong Han said what if there were others outside. Chen Jie retorted by saying how would he know if Dong Han wouldn’t shoot him in the back. Dong Han told him to take a gamble. Chen Jie finally made a move while blurting out commands to the others. Zi Yan immediately grabbed Yong Mei and hurried out of there–with the suspect following after. Dong Han used that opportunity to follow him.
While they were making their way out of there, Yong Mei asked about Dong Han. Zi Yan said that Dong Han was following them from behind. Chen Jie turned around and told the other person to stop while Ah Gang and Zi Yan pulled out their guns as well. Zi Yan had used herself to shield in front of Yong Mei at the same time. Chen Jie then yelled out for Ah Gang to restrain the other person. Yet what shocked them all was Chen Jie telling Dong Han to stop and toss his gun on the ground. Dong Han yelled out what Chen Jie was trying to pull while Ah Gang paused in his tracks. Zi Yan even yelled out for Chen Jie, wondering what he was up to. Chen Jie told her to shut up and repeated his order by telling Dong Han to toss his gun. Yong Mei then spoke up to ask Chen Jie about his intention. Chen Jie said he would explain when they returned. He repeated his command once again. Dong Han said if Chen Jie wanted to, just shoot him to get it over with. Chen Jie told Dong Han not to taunt him. Ah Gang told Chen Jie not to be like that at the moment. He still didn’t listen. Ah Gang had no choice but to proceed with his task, telling the suspect to kneel down before kicking his weapon away. Dong Han knew it wasn’t that simple. Ah Gang got overpowered while searching for other weapons. It was also then that Dong Han reacted, striking at the suspect to save Ah Gang. Yet Chen Jie still yelled at Dong Han, telling him not to move. Dong Han told Chen Jie not to shoot, saying that he wanted the suspect alive. So they engaged in a fight. It was too obvious the suspect wasn’t a match for Dong Han. Yet he retreated and pulled out a knife. Dong Han removed his own tie and used that as a weapon. It was effective at first yet the knife had cut Dong Han’s tie in several more moves. Dong Han didn’t give up, finally restraining the suspect. Ah Gang soon rushed forward to take over for Dong Han, telling Dong Han it was all right to let go. Dong Han loosened up at last after Ah Gang attempted to undo Dong Han’s grip from the suspect. While he was handcuffing the suspect, Chen Jie yelled out that it was more important to get Yong Mei home. He yelled at Ah Gang when Ah Gang didn’t respond. Ah Gang yelled back, saying that it was enough already, and that Dong Han could go, considering how they were all on the same team. Chen Jie returned his glare to Dong Han yet Dong walked away to continue his duty while Ah Gang yelled at Chen Jie to help him. Zi Yan finally put away her gun while Yong Mei walked out from behind her to ask about Dong Han’s well being. Dong Han said he was fine and told Zi Yan to get Yong Mei home. While Yong Mei settled into the car, she finally discovered something, yelling out Dong Han’s name. That was when Zi Yan turned around and saw what they had all missed before. Dong Han was injured. Zi Yan rushed over to him and grab onto his sides, telling him to sit down. Dong Han said they could wait until they were done with the mission, but she told him to sit down first. Yet he pushed her away and proceeded to open the car door again. But that was also when he crashed. Both Zi Yan and Yong Mei rushed over to tend to him.

This episode, unlike the past, didn’t repeat some of the previous parts or continued from the previous scene but ended up going toward another scene. Chen Jie and Chief Zheng were having a meeting with just the two of them. Chief Zheng was saying how trust couldn’t be bought with money or based upon someone’s status. Then he went into asking Chen Jie about his opinions of the rest of the team. Chen Jie said that he agreed with Zi Yan that there was indeed a mole among them all. Chen Jie also said that he trusted Zi Yan yet not so much with Dong Han. (Um, that justified his slapping Zi Yan previously?) Chief Zheng warned Chen Jie that he was treading into a very serious territory after he conjectured that Dong Han was probably trying to bid some time with leading them around in circles by opening the old case while trying to report to Zhang Guo Tang of their latest moves. Chief Zheng said that he trusted Chen Jie–and that Chen Jie should give the others more time to trust him as well. Then Chief Zheng received a call from his senior. It was Miao Miao’s grandpa. Chief Zheng obviously had to go tend to it, so the meeting was halted.
Meanwhile, Zi Yan came to Dong Han’s room to talk. She asked if he was leaving just because Chen Jie told him to. Dong Han said he could still investigate on his own, without having to see Chen Jie’s face. Zi Yan said that their boss was back, and he was talking to Chen Jie at that point. Zi Yan also said that she already talked to their boss, explaining to him of their actions. She disclosed that Chen Jie didn’t have any power over them, only their boss did. Therefore, Dong Han didn’t need to leave. Dong Han contradicted her by saying that no one had any power over his staying or leaving. After saying that, he left since he was done packing. However, Zi Yan reached out to grab a hold of his hand, stopping him. Dong Han obviously looked annoyed with her action. She told him that Yong Mei won’t let him leave, because she knew that Yong Mei likes him. He didn’t seem to care (or maybe he was still fuming from the fight with Chen Jie earlier), so he told Zi Yan to apologize to Yong Mei for him. Zi Yan tried another tactic, telling Dong Han that what if she wanted him to stay. He turned around to look at her once again before saying that it would be the same, he apologized to her as well. Yet she didn’t let go of him. In fact, she grabbed on even tighter than before. Then what she did next stunned him even more than all her previous actions. He no longer looked pissed off, but his face mirrored that of shock. What did she do? She gave him a kiss on the cheek before letting go of him. Yet he didn’t leave. He was still standing there, thinking of what just happened. He finally spoke up, asking her what she was doing. She didn’t know either, but she only knew that it felt lonely to be there yet it was fine afterward because of him. That was it, and she smiled. His expression was back to annoyed. He told her that she shouldn’t have any type of fantasies toward him because she would eventually be disappointed. She asked him why. But when he turned to face her, trying to get his point across, her phone rang. It was their boss. After Zi Yan got off the phone, she told Dong Han that Zhang Guo Tang had attacked again. It was the previous incident regarding Miao Miao. Zi Yan asked Dong Han if he still wanted to leave. He tossed his bag back on his bed before heading off to the scene with Zi Yan.
At the newspaper place, Miao Miao was still in shock and Zi Hong was waiting for the others to arrive. At that same time, Jia Yuan was seen preparing some milk tea for Miao Miao to calm her nerves. Miao Miao’s grandpa soon arrived, and Miao Miao rushed to his side, seeking some comfort. Soon, Miao Miao’s grandpa focused on Zi Hong. He wanted to thank Zi Hong for saving his granddaughter and offered a hand for Zi Hong to shake, which Zi Hong avoided completely and walked away. When Chief Zheng arrived with the others, they were stationed outside while Chief Zheng went in to do the questioning. Chief Zheng was pondering why Zhang Guo Tang was targeting Miao Miao. Miao Miao’s grandpa had two theories: a) because Miao Miao and Yong Mei were coworkers hence wanting to get to Miao Miao or b) Miao Miao was investigating Zhang Guo Tang hence Zhang Guo Tang wanted to give her a warning. Chief Zheng was surprised that Miao Miao didn’t contribute yet, considering her nature. Miao Miao soon jumped in to say that her grandpa had stopped her from investigating. Chief Zheng asked Miao Miao why she thought that the attacker wanted to kill her. She said Zi Hong said so, and even she thought that was exaggerating.
Outside, Zi Yan was taking Zi Hong’s statements while the others were dusting for prints. Dong Han walked over to the two while Zi Yan carried on with her questioning. She was asking how Zi Hong come to the conclusion that the attacker was going for the kill and not just kidnapping or other reasons. Zi Hong said that the other party didn’t care to wear a mask or tried to conceal himself because it seemed like the other person saw no need for it. Yes, going for the kill so it didn’t matter if Miao Miao saw his face or not. Zi Yan jotted down some notes before telling Zi Hong to sign if he didn’t have any problems with it. Zi Hong hesitated before taking his hands out of his pockets to sign. It was also then that Zi Yan realized he had hurt his hand. It was probably from the fight earlier. Zi Yan asked him how bad was his injury, suggesting that he head to the hospital to have it checked out. He said no need before rushing off. Zi Yan and Dong Han looked worried. Zi Yan even voiced her opinion about how much blood Zi Hong was losing–and wanted to rush after him yet Dong Han stopped her. He said he would. He increased his pace and asked Zi Hong where his car was, wanting to send Zi Hong to the hospital himself. He said he insisted so even if Zi Hong gave him a fierce look, it didn’t matter. While all that was going on, Zi Yan stood by with an amused smile on her face. And while they were on their way, Dong Han loosened his tie and tried to make conversation, but Zi Hong wasn’t biting. Not the least bit. But Zi Hong had to face Miao Miao’s wrath over the phone when Jia Yuan called him. Miao Miao questioned him why he was so impolite with her grandpa. She wanted to meet up later to straighten things out. He couldn’t say no. (And before that, Chief Zheng had a talk with Miao Miao’s grandpa, wanting to ask if he and Zhang Guo Tang had any disagreements in the past that had led to Zhang Guo Tang targeting Miao Miao. None at this point, but Chief Zheng promised to send a team over to protect Miao Miao all the same.)
Zi Yan was finally free and came inside to comfort Miao Miao. She found Miao Miao and Jia Yuan joking and laughing so she was reassured that Miao Miao was no longer frightened. Miao Miao joked that she had internal injuries, and wanted sweets to soothe those injuries after Zi Yan asked if she was still able to write. Zi Yan soon brought out some sweets to bribe both Miao Miao and Jia Yuan. After some more joking, Zi Yan and Miao Miao sat down at the table to talk while Jia Yuan prepared a teacup for Zi Yan. Zi Yan explained that she often ate sweets (from the tube she brought out earlier) when she didn’t have time for a meal. She soon handed Miao Miao a tissue to wipe her mouth (from the chocolate residues that she just snacked on). Zi Yan also grabbed a tissue to wipe her pen. Miao Miao saw the blood residues on the pen and asked if Zi Yan was injured. Zi Yan said no, it was from Zi Hong’s. That was when Jia Yuan brought over the teacup for Zi Yan and had to stop short upon hearing that Zi Hong was injured. Miao Miao was also no longer smiling. Of course, Zi Yan saw Miao Miao’s reaction and immediately asked Miao Miao about it. Miao Miao, of course, didn’t know about it. She probably had put two and two together, understanding why Zi Hong didn’t shake her grandpa’s hand earlier.
Elsewhere, Dong Han was saying how luckily Zi Hong was there to save Miao Miao or she would’ve been done for already. Dong Han asked if Zi Hong knew why Zhang Guo Tang was targeting Miao Miao. Dong Han stated that Zhang Guo Tang had been overseas lately so he couldn’t have any grudges with Miao Miao. Zi Hong pointed out it could have to do with her grandpa. Dong Han asked Zi Hong what their grudges were and Zi Hong told Dong Han not to ask him. Dong Han said that Zi Hong must know a lot. He asked if Zi Hong still remembered the accident of twenty years ago–and if Zi Hong wanted to seek revenge. He then mentioned Zi Hong’s mother, and if it wasn’t for the accident, his mother would still be normal, living her life, etc. Zi Hong asked where Dong Han was going and he could drop Dong Han off before walking away. Dong Han walked after Zi Hong, images of the past flashed in his mind. He was indeed hurting as bad as Zi Hong, and possibly worst because he had lost both of his parents. From his eyes, it could be seen that he wanted to reach out and reconnect with his childhood friend, but couldn’t.
At the Yang resident, the confrontation between Zi Hong and Miao Miao finally occurred. Miao Miao was, of course, upset over the fact that Zi Hong didn’t tell her that he was injured. She not only chided him for not telling her, but she had to hear it from someone else of his injury. Grandpa Yang soon came and dissolved the matter. They all sat down at the table afterward and Grandpa Yang got right down to business, saying that he heard Miao Miao said that Zi Hong wanted to ask him some questions. Zi Hong whipped out a piece of paper that he had acquired when he was in high school. It was the list with all the names of the ones who signed, agreeing to move out 20 years ago regarding the land redevelopment project. Apparently, Miao Miao had already asked him regarding the matter earlier, but he wanted to wait for Zi Hong before answering. Grandpa Yang said at first he didn’t want to sign either but he was told by his superior to do it, and that it was an order. After he did it, even his son scolded him. Yet because he had some reputation at that time around town so the townspeople soon signed, except for 3 households, which were Xiao Cao’s family, Xi Shuai’s family, and Zi Hong’s mother. Grandpa Yang asked if Zi Hong wanted to make him pay for what had happened. Zi Hong said he’d guessed that already so he wanted to ask Grandpa Yang another question. He wanted to know what Project Jing Hai (靖海計劃) was. Grandpa Yang said he didn’t know. Zi Hong couldn’t believe that he didn’t know, considering how it was probably linked to the redevelopment project. He said that before the signing, everyone was against the project, even Grandpa Yang himself (just like what Grandpa Yang said earlier). Yet afterward, Grandpa Yang just signed away. Grandpa Yang reminded Zi Hong that he had no choice but to obey at that time because it was an order from his superior. But Zi Hong wasn’t satisfied with the answer. Zi Hong said what was suspicious was how afterward, Grandpa Yang had a promotion. He suspected those incidents were linked, and it had to do with Project Jing Hai, considering how the files were sealed regarding that. Grandpa Yang lost his patience and lashed out at Zi Hong, telling Zi Hong that he’d been honest all his life, etc. But Zi Hong said he just wanted to know about Project Jing Hai, not caring what Grandpa Yang’s reputation was on the surface. It got to the point that Miao Miao had to stop the fight and told Zi Hong to stop attacking her grandpa. Zi Hong told the two that he would continue to investigate regardless before leaving the place.
Back at the secret headquarter, they had another meeting. Chen Jie said that Zi Hong and Miao Miao had already confirmed of Miao Miao’s attacker–and that they could disregard the reason for the attack being that Miao Miao was a newspaper reporter. Chen Jie further disclosed that Zhang Guo Tang, Yang Yong Zhao (楊永照 – aka Grandpa Yang), Jiang Jian Ming, and Shen You Fu (Zi Hong’s adopted father) were all from the same town. They didn’t want to admit their relations, but there was a definite link. Chen Jie suspected that Zhang Guo Tang’s main target wasn’t Jiang Jian Ming, but Yang Yong Zhao. Chief Zheng asked Chen Jie what he thought the reason was for the attacks. Chen Jie conjectured that it was either because of the whole cop/gangster relation that they could never break from, or it was because they were in a conspiracy together. Dong Han interrupted Chen Jie with his snarky remarks, saying that Chen Jie was once again trying to push blame on fellow cops. He used Chen Jie as an example, stating that he could just suspect Chen Jie because of his behaviors, and listed the way Chen Jie was doing with trying to kick him and Zi Yan off the team. Yet he said he chose to believe Chen Jie because Chen Jie was a fellow cop. Chen Jie said he wasn’t falling for Dong Han’s trap. Before it got any more out of hand, Chief Zheng jumped in to stop them from fighting, and even stated his reason for believing Yang Yong Zhao, because he said Yang Yong Zhao wouldn’t accept any money from anyone – even if his son had been hospitalized due to illness and ended up dying, etc. Chen Jie relented and said he was just guessing. Chief Zheng said he understood yet he wasn’t buying it. He said why didn’t they just plain suspect him too, considering how they already suspected Yang Yong Zhao. They were all quiet by that time, and Chen Jie once again sent Dong Han an evil glare. Yet Zi Yan soon broke the intensity by drawing out the formulas on the board, stating that the third possibility with Zhang Guo Tang’s attacks was to test them (aka their team). It was because Yang Yong Zhao was also currently a consultant to the police hence attacking him could be part of the whole testing the police force, not because of a personal reason. Indeed, that got the others thinking even more. It was about playing games with the police, not just some personal grudge with Jiang Jian Ming or Yang Yong Zhao.
While Miao Miao and Grandpa Yang were eating dinner at home and talking about the disagreements earlier with Zi Hong, Zi Hong was home talking to Jia Yuan. She, of course, worried for him and asked about his wound. They talked some more and ended up joking around. She noticed how he was so close to Miao Miao and wondered if they were friends for a long time. He admitted it yet dodged her question about his relationship or lack of one. Zi Hong finally confided in Jia Yuan of his high school crush when Jia Yuan promised not to tell anyone. He described how he followed her from behind when they were riding their bikes, etc. Jia Yuan was disappointed that he didn’t make a move yet didn’t blame him too much since it was only two months. He corrected her by saying that it was two years, not two months. She was indeed shocked. After some more joking, they settled down. Then Zi Hong drove Jia Yuan home. As he walked her to her place, she hooked her hands through his, even stopping to look at their shadows before stating how it would be nice to keep continuing like that. He didn’t say anything. Soon after, she asked him about them being together, which he denied. She asked if he didn’t like her, and he said it wasn’t so. She soon let go of him and apologized. He said it really wasn’t so and when she asked him why, he stated that he couldn’t be depended on. He went on to say that he treated her like his little sister. She made her request again about them getting together. She said that they could leave the place together with Xuan Xuan. He said he couldn’t leave yet. She asked if it was because of Miao Miao. He said it wasn’t like that, but it didn’t have to do with Miao Miao. She apologized and said it was all right before biding him goodbye and good night. They went their separate ways, but she soon texted him. The message said that it was all right that he didn’t tell her the reason why, but she promised him that she wouldn’t bring it up again in the future. She also hoped that he would be happy.
Hua Jie soon appeared, offering Jia Yuan a handkerchief and asked who had upset her. They moved on to discuss business. Hua Jie asked if Jia Yuan could travel, and Jia Yuan said no, considering how there was still Xuan Xuan. Hua Jie had other alternatives. Jia Yuan said she could do all that was asked, but she still wanted to work for the newspaper place from time to time, on top of caring for Xuan Xuan. Hua Jie promised.
Back at the Yang resident, Yong Mei came to see Miao Miao, asking about her well being. Yong Mei then apologized for dragging Miao Miao into the situation. Yet Miao Miao said it didn’t have anything to do with Yong Mei. Yong Mei was still feeling guilty about it, not convinced and knew that Miao Miao was just reassuring her. Yet Yong Mei soon turned to Dong Han and said that she knew it would soon end because the team was there to protect them and solve the case. And then when they got to the Luo resident, Yong Mei asked Dong Han when it would all end. Dong Han hesitated before saying that he didn’t know. She wanted him and Zi Yan to go and protect Miao Miao yet he told her that their orders were to protect her. Seeing her devastated state, Dong Han soon told her that they had come to the conclusion that this situation wasn’t related to her. He said it was because Grandpa Yang being a cop previously that Zhang Guo Tang wanted to target and test the cops, not having to do with Yong Mei’s side. Yong Mei burst out saying that she didn’t know what was Zhang Guo Tang’s problems with targeting people, but she told Dong Han to pass the words to his superiors to protect Miao Miao or she’ll…she had to stop herself from lashing out at Dong Han, considering how it wasn’t his fault. It was hard to blame her for the outburst because of recent events surrounding her and her family and friends, but she seriously was starting to sound like her mother, lol. She needed some time to pull herself together before apologizing to Dong Han for her actions, but he said it was no problem. She then asked him for his help tomorrow, and surprisingly, he agreed. And interestingly, he turned that sweet smile off after he left the Luo resident and got into his car. He was being followed by Chen Jie while he was driving away from the resident. However, he wasn’t heading back to the headquarter but went to a public phone and used a phone card to make a call. Chen Jie was still spying.
Next morning, Zi Yan was seen carrying two cups of beverage while Ah Gang was working at his desk. It was soon revealed that Zi Yan’s other cup was for Dong Han. He was working at his desk also and had stopped briefly to stare at Zi Yan before resuming his work. Yet he soon grabbed onto Zi Yan’s cup for him and placed it on the other side of his desk. Chen Jie was still watching Dong Han from upstairs. He soon descended the steps and called for everyone’s attention. He said that they should fight back, not standing around and taking Zhang Guo Tang’s blows anymore. He told Ah Gang that Ah Gang didn’t need to go spy on Zhang Guo Tang’s henchman anymore and that he could leave it to other fellow cops. He told them Xiao He had some leads, and that he and Ah Gang should go check it out. He then turned to Dong Han and told Dong Han to follow them as well. Dong Han said that he was supposed to go with Yong Mei, but Chen Jie said it had been changed. Dong Han didn’t give up, saying that Yong Mei needed his help with something. Chen Jie returned it by saying how Zi Yan could take care of it. Dong Han said Chen Jie should ask Yong Mei about it. That got to Chen Jie, and he confronted Dong Han, wondering if Dong Han was using Yong Mei to put some pressure on him. Dong Han said he wasn’t trying to use any pressure on anyone. Chen Jie said that with the current situation, Dong Han didn’t have any say any more. Dong Han asked Chen Jie what he was trying to get at. Chen Jie asked Dong Han where Dong Han went after leaving the Luo resident. Dong Han said, of course, he came back to the headquarter, but Chen Jie said it wasn’t so. Dong Han got up and asked Chen Jie what he was getting at with following him, etc. Chen Jie asked who Dong Han was calling when he stopped to use the public phone. Dong Han said that he was calling home. Chen Jie pointed out why Dong Han didn’t use his cell phone. Dong Han said his cell phone had run out of battery. Chen Jie asked him why he didn’t wait to return to the headquarter to call, etc. Dong Han said his family’s schedule wasn’t as abnormal as his to be up at that time, considering what time he returned. He even urged Chen Jie to investigate, handing over his own cell phone. Chen Jie still didn’t believe Dong Han, asking Dong Han his family’s home phone. Dong Han chanted off the number, which matched the number on the piece of paper Chen Jie had jotted down. However, Chen Jie still declared that he didn’t believe Dong Han. He asked why Dong Han dialed it twice. Dong Han said he couldn’t get through hence trying again. Dong Han knew it was hopeless so he said he would do whatever Chen Jie told him to do. Then he turned to Zi Yan, saying that what he promised Yong Mei, he had to trouble Zi Yan to fulfill it for him. Zi Yan asked him what he had promised Yong Mei, but Dong Han said to ask Yong Mei, not him.
Meanwhile, Zi Hong finally took Miao Miao to see his mother. Miao Miao tried to communicate with the old lady, trying to resurrect her memory or movement by telling her of old stories. However, it was as useless as when Zi Hong communicated with her. Then Miao Miao helped Zi Hong with massaging his mother, trying to keep her muscles active. Miao Miao tried to make a conversation with Zi Hong again, especially about her grandpa. When they brought Zi Hong’s mother back to her room, Miao Miao discovered the old music snow globe on the desk. She was moved to tears that the music box was still there.
At the Luo resident, Chen Jie was trying to convince Yong Mei not to meddle into their internal affairs. However, Yong Mei stated her respect for the team and her gratitude for their protection, etc. She also went on further to say that if Dong Han wanted to harm her, he would’ve already, he didn’t need to wait for Zhang Guo Tang to make a move. She even recaptured the situation of how she and Miao Miao had been in danger. She rather believed in Dong Han with having jumped out to protect her than all the other cops, including Chen Jie. Then they went outside and Dong Han asked what was their conclusion. Yong Mei spoke up to tell Dong Han to follow her, and Zi Yan took the chance to gave Dong Han a thumbs up. So Yong Mei entered the car and Dong Han followed, turning to see Chen Jie still frowning at him. Yong Mei sent Zi Yan a sweet smile before the car sped off. Chen Jie then told Zi Yan to keep her distance from Dong Han, and it was for her own good. Zi Yan frowned again, asking if Chen Jie was still suspicious of Dong Han. Chen Jie said sometimes suspicions didn’t need an explanation before walking away. Zi Yan shook her head at him. And back in the car, Dong asked Yong Mei what she told Chen Jie earlier. Yong Mei had on a cunning smile and said she wasn’t going to tell him.
Elsewhere in another car, Miao Miao was giving Zi Hong a hard time again. It was hard to blame her, considering how he did kiss her that one time and then shrugged it off as if it was nothing. And he was still acting it was nothing unusual. The most important thing was it was her first kiss. He said it was also his. She didn’t care, and she said she was a girl after all. Okay, it trudged past relationships and all as well. She asked if he’d ever been in love. He said in high school. She asked if he liked that girl more or her. He said, of course, the other girl. She kicked him out of the car, lol. Then she took off. Then it was revealed in the flashback that his high school crush was actually Miao Miao. It was just that she didn’t realize it was him. Or more like she didn’t realize she was being stalked, lol. Zi Hong had on a secret smile as he headed back home. It showed that he was working on a new music card, which coincidentally got sent to a certain someone.
And that person got murdered. The special team arrived at the scene to check it out. The music card was still present at the scene, which Zi Yan picked up and asked the others about it. Was it really Zi Hong? Or was it Dong Han? Considering how Dong Han had previously come to Zi Hong’s lab and discovered a lot there.
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
The confrontation between Chen Jie and Dong Han continued. Chen Jie wanted Dong Han to answer him. Considering what Dong Han said if Chen Jie was wrong, but Chen Jie said even if it was wrong, it was still his orders so Dong Han have to respect it. Dong Han smirked before saying that he would respect it. Chen Jie warned that Dong Han must remember what he (Dong Han) just said. Then Chen Jie turned to the others to remind them that they were facing a very dangerous criminal hence he didn’t want to see anything happening to them while he was their team leader. He made it too clear that he was in charge. As if that wasn’t enough, he turned to warn Dong Han once again.
As for Zi Hong, he finally went to the old forest where they planted the trees to check the wooden tags out for himself. It was also there that Miao Miao found him as she was returning to the place for a visit. She was obviously still upset over their last encounter, and possibly rightly so. While displaying her long face, she asked him if he really didn’t place those wooden tags on the trees. He said it wasn’t really him placing it on there yet the symbols were connected to him. She reminded him that he previously told her that Qing Ting was in the past already. He clarified that it belonged to his past and his birth mother, but to his father and others, he was just Zi Hong. It was indeed complicated and hard to understand for others. She spoke up to say that she wasn’t just anyone, she was Miao Miao. He said it had been 20 years already, people change along with the things, he wouldn’t know how much she’d changed. She snapped at him once again yet decided to let him off (lightly) by asking if he’d returned to the forest often. He admitted it yet he said it was the first time he saw the wooden tags. She asked him if he knew where Xi Shuai (蟋蟀 – cricket) and Xiao Cao (小草 – little grass) were. Zi Hong had a little reminiscent moment where he had tried to seek out Xi Shuai and Xiao Cao yet they were already adopted by other people before he could see them again after the accident. Miao Miao called Zi Hong out of the trance yet soon realized he might not want to disclose the details to her so she vouched to find out on her own. She rambled on and on, still upset about his coolness, obviously. (Yet what bugged me to death was how she was upset over how he had scolded her and she told him to be more careful next time when he scolded people. I don’t mean she can’t be upset since she was the person influencing Jiang Jian Ming to return, but what bugged me was how she told Zi Hong to be careful about the scolding yet herself? She was scolding the cops and bossing them around yet it was already a miracle that Chief Zheng gave her such an easy out.) Anyway, Zi Hong soon snapped out of it and asked if she’d returned to the seaside before. So they went. Their conversation somewhat improved since they were talking about Zi Hong’s mother. He said he took her there sometimes, even if she didn’t remember, hoping that she would remember one day. With Zi Hong’s recounts, Miao Miao soon apologized for not knowing and many more. She no longer wanted to scold him or be hostile toward him. She attempted again by asking about Xi Shuai and Xiao Cao. He said he and the other two were brought to the orphanage yet the other two were adopted already so he didn’t know where they went either. They soon made up, with him promising that he would tell her stuff. She was happy again and jumpy. They were interacting like normal again, or at least she was.
Back at the secret headquarter, Zi Yan was seen making sandwiches. It was soon revealed that she was making ’em for Chen Jie and Ah Gang. Well, she was just making ’em and wanted to share with the guys too. She pondered if Chen Jie had already calmed down and said that she wanted to discuss Dong Han’s suggestion with unearthing the case regarding the accident of 20 years ago. She said it would reveal a lot more about Zhang Guo Tang and Jiang Jian Ming’s disagreements and whatnot. Chen Jie asked if she also thought he was wrong. She said a little. Chen Jie shrugged it off as orders were orders yet he didn’t forget to thank her for the sandwiches on his way out. Zi Yan’s hospitality didn’t stop with Chen Jie and Ah Gang. She also bribed Xiao He with her sandwich, lol. And then, of course, Dong Han. He said he wasn’t hungry. She, of course, had her own technique to deal with such stubborn heads like him, lol. She said if he wasn’t hungry, she wouldn’t give him the files. Yes, she probably scored the files via Xiao He. So he had no choice but to accept the half sandwich. She also made him surrender the keys so she could drive. When they were in the car, she told him what she found out before they headed off to the Luo resident. There, Yong Mei greeted them both and asked if they both were going with her. Zi Yan explained since their trip that day required some nighttime so it was safer having Dong Han there with them as well. Yong Mei apologized and explained regarding her tasks that day, and said that she would try to limit night trips in the future. Zi Yan said it was their job so she didn’t need to apologize. Yong Mei soon asked if Dong Han was always carrying that long face. Zi Yan said that he was born with that long face, lol. Yong Mei laughed at the joke before walking to the car. Dong Han turned to give Zi Yan a half-smirk while Zi Yan returned it with one of her teasing expressions. (Cute!) And so they were off. Their trip entailed mostly business relating to Yong Mei’s newspaper stuff, but she soon found out that this one guy was taking advantage of the situation and wanted to bribe her by giving extra money to get the foot in the door with her parents. So, of course, she didn’t accept the money and left.
Meanwhile, Mr. Shen came to the newspaper place to meet up with Miao Miao. He brought a little gift over to her, thanking her for saving him and his son previously. She said she didn’t do much. Their conversation soon moved toward Zi Hong’s mother when they were outside. Mr. Shen said that she needed to talk to Zi Hong about it. Yup, he was still leaving it up to Zi Hong, just like how they were at the police headquarter previously. Miao Miao had no choice but to respect that. She then asked about Xi Shuai and Xiao Cao. Mr. Shen said Zi Hong had always been looking for them and for Miao Miao as well. He said they, along with his mother, were the most important in his life. Soon after, Mr. Shen left. Miao Miao was left with her thoughts and her reliance on herself to figure out Zi Hong’s words.
That night, Zi Yan and Dong Han escorted Yong Mei safely back to the Luo resident. However, Yong Mei seemed to be upset. Zi Yan asked her what was wrong. Yong Mei disclosed that previously when she tried to contact them with supporting her newspaper, they didn’t seem all that interested. Now that her father contacted them, they were more than excited and willing to help her. She went on to say that Miao Miao was very hardworking and had high hopes for their projects and that if Miao Miao found out those people were interested only because of Yong Mei’s connection, she would be very sad and disappointed. Before Zi Yan could speak up to reassure Yong Mei, Dong Han told Yong Mei not to let Miao Miao know. Dong Han went on to say that Yong Mei could just tell Miao Miao that the newspaper was priceless. Yong Mei asked if he read their newspaper. He said yes, he really liked it. Yong Mei was surprised. Zi Yan soon confessed she read it also and really liked it. Dong Han went on with his philosophical speech that got the other two staring at him. They indeed were surprised because of his talkativeness all of a sudden. Yong Mei thought that he was a mute, lol. The little joke between them also lightened up the moods and cheered Yong Mei up again.
Back at the headquarter, Dong Han was chiding Zi Yan about how girls were all the same, always relying on picking on others for their amusement. She returned it with her own witty remark, lol. Yet when they settled down at their desks, Dong Han was quiet and working again. Zi Yan soon slid her chair over to his side and asked why he wanted to investigate the accident of 20 years ago so much. He reminded her that he already told them all the reason at the meeting earlier. She said it still wasn’t all that convincing. She said she had a better reason than his, lol. She refused to say though. She quickly told him to finish up first and said she wanted to leave. He asked her if she was free tomorrow, wanting to meet up and discuss some stuff. She seemed surprised? (LOL!) She kept pointing between the two of them. He nodded to make sure she understood. So she asked him if it was a date. He said it was a meeting. She wasn’t letting him off though, considering how it wasn’t a group involved so it couldn’t be called a meeting, lol. He said then it would be an isolated meeting. He laughed after that. She was still giving him weird looks, but after she turned and left, she smiled as well.
That night, Dong Han was indeed burning the midnight oil. Like he had said, he was investigating the accident – with or without Chen Jie’s permission. It was also when he got up for another round of coffee that he remembered back to his childhood. And it was confirmed that he was one of the three kids that had been in the accident. He was Xi Shuai. He was with Xiao Cao in the car after meeting up with Qing Ting and how Qing Ting promised to find them later and then they would go and seek out Miao Miao. But Xi Shuai fell asleep in the car and when he awakened, Xiao Cao was gone. When asked, he was told that Xiao Cao had already gone to her new family. The same with Qing Ting. He, Xi Shuai, would soon be with his new family. It was also revealed that Dong Han was the one who curved the symbols on the wooden pieces and placed them onto the trees. He was working with the wooden pieces that night with some tools from his pouch. And he ended up at Zi Hong’s place yet didn’t confront the other party. He hid and sneaked into Zi Hong’s workroom to take a look. He even discovered Zi Hong’s board. He also found some blank music cards. Then the scene merged.
Jia Yuan was seen holding a blank music card in her hands. Yes, it seemed like Zi Hong was the one helping her all along with sending funds each month to help the pair of sister and brother surviving and all. And it seemed like Jia Yuan was still struggling with her own problems. (Yeah, obviously, considering how she couldn’t just cut it off and steer clear of a certain person.) She had to meet up with the person called Hua Jie. Jia Yuan didn’t want to step into that complicated world anymore. Not after that talk with Zi Hong, etc. Hua Jie asked her about the money she borrowed. Jia Yuan said she could return the money. Hua Jie said even if she could give Jia Yuan more time to allow her to pay back the money, it was still up to the boss. He wasn’t the type to force others into doing what they didn’t like, but what he hated more was people who didn’t keep their promises. She told Jia Yuan to think it over and said she was leaving. However, Xuan Xuan arrived. Jia Yuan realized Hua Jie knew Xuan Xuan’s name. Hua Jie said since Jia Yuan didn’t keep in touch, she had to rack up Jia Yuan’s ancestry links and all. Xuan Xuan asked who that lady was after Hua Jie left. Jia Yuan could only say that she was a friend.
The next day at the newspaper place, Miao Miao treated Zi Hong and Jia Yuan to lunch. She actually prepared the meal. Jia Yuan, of course, praised her dishes while Zi Hong said it was just all right. They ended up in banter. Yet afterward, Zi Hong washed the dishes while Miao Miao and Jia Yuan worked on the layout of the next issue. Like one of those times, Miao Miao joined Zi Hong for tea while Jia Yuan worked away at the layout. Miao Miao finally told Zi Hong that Mr. Shen sought her out the previous day. Zi Hong knew it was to thank her for her help at that one time. They went on to talk more about their childhood. Zi Hong told Miao Miao that he had let Xi Shuai and Xiao Cao down, considering how he didn’t keep his promise with them. Miao Miao told him he was only six back then, he shouldn’t be so hard on himself. He said that they shouldn’t talk about that anymore, he wanted to discuss her new findings. She said he was stubborn and he returned it with it wasn’t like her first day knowing him. Jia Yuan seemed to detect some strangeness between the two from afar. Yet she resumed her work anyway.
The meeting between Dong Han and Zi Yan finally commenced. He was wondering why she picked that place. She reminded him that he said they were having an “isolated” meeting hence the isolated location. He said he was just kidding. They finally approached the main topic after that little joke. Zi Yan said that there was a mole within the group. Dong Han asked the mole for who. Zi Yan said for Zhang Guo Tang. He told her not to joke around regarding that matter. She wasn’t. She told him all her reasoning with how Zhang Guo Tang knew so much about them and their plans. So he asked her who suspected as the mole. She said she would cross his name off the list first, lol. He asked her why. (Wasn’t he just glad she didn’t suspect him?) Her answer was that he didn’t have to save Yong Mei if he was the mole. He wouldn’t want to investigate Zhang Guo Tang and all the things surrounding him. He asked her who else could be crossed off the list. She said none, considering how everyone was as suspicious. That meant she also suspected Chief Zheng. What was surprising that got a glare from Dong Han was that she said she, herself, was also on the list. Yet she said the most suspicious person at that point was Chen Jie. Dong Han asked was it because of how Chen Jie was against the idea of him investigating the case of 20 years ago. Zi Yan nodded. Dong Han pondered if it was just because Chen Jie was upset by his (Dong Han) words hence losing his temper. Zi Yan said previously she upset him too yet his reaction wasn’t like that. If he was easily roused by the others, he couldn’t be their team leader. (Good point. He didn’t snap at Miao Miao either, even if she was yelling at them like tenfold.) Dong Han pointed out that it would be a big deal with pointing the finger at Chen Jie. Zi Yan said that she only hoped that her suspicion was wrong. Yet she told him they still have to be careful. He said he understood. He then asked her what she found out already. She told him, but at the same time, Miao Miao was also telling Zi Hong the same thing. It was how the town was going through some developmental process. All the families didn’t agree at first but soon one by one agreed. The remaining three that didn’t agree ended up in the accident. Perhaps that wasn’t an accident after all if it coincided with the project. Dong Han said that no one could be sure of the two incidents having to do with one another. It wasn’t up to Zi Yan to say. Zi Yan said it wasn’t like Zhang Guo Tang would confess if they caught him so they should investigate on their own. According to Miao Miao, the person behind the company that was responsible for the development project’s surname was Yan (顏). Zi Hong said that Jiang Jian Ming’s wife’s surname was Yan. So back to Zi Yan and Dong Han, Zi Yan said that it indeed had to do with the Yan. Dong Han said that if Zhang Guo Tang was acting under the Yan’s company’s orders, then it could possibly have to do with Jiang Jian Ming. Zi Yan nodded. Dong Han and Zi Yan’s meeting was interrupted by Xiao He’s text messaging them, telling them to come back for a meeting. Well, it was more like Chen Jie was looking for them.
Then back to Miao Miao and Zi Hong’s meeting. It was getting intense again–like it should be with the current topic of discussion. Zi Hong wondered if Miao Miao was able to continue on, considering how it had to with the Jiang family and she was best friends and co-workers with Yong Mei. She might want to change her mind regarding the whole investigation. He wanted to leave, telling her to think it over. Yet she said he was like that each time. It might not be as extreme as the thought. If it were to arrive at that point, she could always leave the newspaper place. Yet he said what about her grandpa? Apparently the ripple effect started with her grandpa, considering the townspeople didn’t want to sign and sell their places ages back yet her grandpa was the person that had quite an effect on the others. So the others signed, except for the remaining three. It was indeed hard for her to digest, but it couldn’t be helped. It was her grandpa after all.
So Dong Han and Zi Yan finally returned to meet up with Chen Jie and Xiao He. Chen Jie was fuming. It seemed like he found out about how Zi Yan pulled the files already so he was confronting both parties about not listening to his orders. Chen Jie was giving them the ultimatum, considering how their boss was back soon and would eventually strip them both of their current duties. Dong Han commented about how Chen Jie was playing for real, which upset Chen Jie even more. So they were told to surrender their badges and guns. Both did as told, slamming their badges and guns on the table yet Zi Yan soon confronted Chen Jie and asked what benefits did Zhang Guo Tang gave Chen Jie. He went insane and slapped Zi Yan. That shocked Dong Han yet his expression soon turned into livid. He lunged at Chen Jie and was ready to punch Chen Jie out. Yet Zi Yan yelled out to stop him. Chen Jie urged Dong Han on, saying that if Dong Han hit him, Dong Han couldn’t be a cop anymore. Zi Yan rushed over and pulled Dong Han out. They left together with Dong Han still fuming. Zi Yan thanked him for helping her earlier yet said that he didn’t need to do that in the future, considering how she was capable of taking care of herself.
What took place next was what seemed to be another kidnapping. Or an attempt. The person who attempted to kidnap Yong Mei was back to kidnap Miao Miao. Zi Hong had spotted that suspicious vehicle previously so he had doubled back to wait. He also got out in time to save Miao Miao after Zhang Guo Tang had given the go with the plan. Zi Hong and the other guy engaged in a fight. The other party soon fled, knowing it was useless to go against Zi Hong. When Zi Hong turned to Miao Miao, she was still quite shaken up by the fight she witnessed between the two. Zi Hong approached her and told her that that guy was probably Zhang Guo Tang’s henchman. He asked if she was scared yet. She said she had never feared anything before yet what she feared the most was not having friends to rely on. He kissed her. Then he apologized. She still didn’t know what to make of it. He told her to call the cops. She said to arrest him? He told her to call Chief Zheng up so they would know about the matter regarding how Zhang Guo Tang was targeting her. She said it would be faster with calling her grandpa.
*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.
Soon after the phone call with Miao Miao, Zi Hong went to tell Jia Yuan about the meeting that night. She made a fuss about it, mostly due to the fact that she wasn’t confident with getting the job. Yet he said it was a done deal already about the meeting so she couldn’t really do anything about it. Even if she tried, or how she had pointed out it was supposed to be up to her (aka why was he going out and about, deciding stuff for her).
An interesting development came forth when Ah Jie and his buddy clarified with Zi Hong about what was really going on. They said that they really liked Jia Yuan and was really upset after finding out about the situation. They wanted to apologize for their previous actions. Zi Hong asked them if they’d spread the rumors out yet. They said they didn’t. Zi Hong said they didn’t need to apologize, and what was more important was treating Jia Yuan better from now on. Zi Hong went on to ask the two for a favor, wanting them to look after Jia Yuan if he were to leave one day. They were curious about his departure but he shrugged them off and said he only wanted them to promise him to protect Jia Yuan, not meddling into his business. So they promised.
That night, Zi Hong and Jia Yuan had dinner together before going to meet up with Miao Miao at the newspaper place. Zi Hong and Jia Yuan had a heartfelt talk. Although Zi Hong was still sticking to his realistic nature, he tried to comfort Jia Yuan as much as he could. After dinner, they indeed went to meet up with Miao Miao and Miao Miao greeted Jia Yuan with much enthusiasm. She gave Jia Yuan a task to do as part of the interview process. Zi Hong and Miao Miao had a talk while Jia Yuan did the task. Miao Miao was still extracting from Zi Hong the information regarding her childhood friend. Yet Zi Hong wouldn’t let on any further, stating that Qing Ting had left already so there was no point in contacting him. What Zi Hong did disclose was Qing Ting’s cousins, which were Jia Yuan and Xuan Xuan, which made sense with how Xuan Xuan looked like Zi Hong when he was little. Yet Jia Yuan and Xuan Xuan did not know of his existence because of how their families had already lost contact. Any further information retrieving was unfruitful yet Miao Miao finally gained a creative assistant. It was a sealed deal that Jia Yuan would be working at the newspaper place. So after some brief chat, Miao Miao bid them goodbye before going back to brainstorming the case she’d been working on.
Meanwhile at the special headquarter, the team was discussing the latest. Xiao He was briefing them with what he’d found out. After Xiao He was done, Chen Jie asked for Zi Yan’s inputs. Zi Yan didn’t have any problem with Xiao He’s plan, even complimenting Xiao He on his progress. Xiao He actually looked a bit shy yet seemed to feel proud of himself again. He was no longer feeling threatened, lol. What was funny though was how Chen Jie was asking about Miao Miao after Chief Zheng told Zi Yan and Dong Han to be careful with protecting Yong Mei. Chief Zheng said he’d known Miao Miao since she was little and seen her grew up so if they found out she was connected to those things, he would chop his head off and give it to Chen Jie. Seriously? Back to the main problem though, Xiao He showed them the clip during the shooting. They discovered that it wasn’t targeting Jiang Jian Ming, but it was more like a warning. Chief Zheng wondered what Zhang Guo Tang’s main purpose was in this whole matter, considering how it wasn’t just some assassination. Dong Han said that there were just too many suspicions in this case. What message was Zhang Guo Tang sending? Chief Zheng said he’d asked Jiang Jian Ming before yet the man was seriously too busy. Ah Gang was asking if the chief asked him face-to-face. Chief Zheng vouched to get to the bottom of it by setting up another meeting. However, it was unfruitful, Jiang Jian Ming said he had to fly to Japan the next day, and tonight was out because he wanted to spend that time with his granddaughter. He even reminded Chief Zheng to go investigate Zhang Guo Tang’s motives. (Um, that was what they were trying to do here–if only someone would just cooperate. Yet that would probably go against his cause, right?)
Still later that night, Zi Hong was eating a late dinner with his father. They were discussing the events regarding Zhang Guo Tang once again. Mr. Shen once again confronted Zi Hong regarding what he wanted to do. Zi Hong reminded his old man again that he only wanted to investigate what really happened with the whole incident. Soon, Zi Hong was seen showing his father some weapons and other ways that his father could do to protect himself in the future. It seemed like Zi Hong was really wrapping things up before he was going to go against Zhang Guo Tang in the upcoming days. And indeed he was mapping out his route and furthering his investigation the next day.
Like promised, Dong Han and Zi Yan went to the Luo resident to protect Yong Mei. However, their first task was actually passing Mrs. Luo’s test. She was still fierce like always, exuding her power over the two, and wanting to give them a piece of her mind. (Or maybe A LOT.) Yong Mei actually spoke up to try and disarm her mother’s wrath on the two yet she shrugged it off. She was sure having her sweet time torturing the other two to give her the right answer. Dong Han’s impatience was obvious with his straightforward answer, not wanting to just answer for the sake of protocol. He didn’t want to slam down his fellow hardworking officers nor would he want to give her an answer that would please her. That got her even more upset because of his attitude. Zi Yan finally interfered and said that they would use themselves as human shields for her precious daughter and would use their lives to protect her precious daughter.
Outside, Yong Mei apologized to Zi Yan and Dong Han regarding her mother’s hostility. Yet Dong Han interrupted her, saying that she didn’t need to apologize because he understood her mother was just worried for her. So they left the resident. Actually, it was Dong Han who ended up going with Yong Mei this time. Yong Mei was heading toward the newspaper place to meet up with Miao Miao and Jia Yuan. On the way, Zi Yan called Dong Han to chide him for being so hostile with Mrs. Luo. It wasn’t because she didn’t agree with him, but she was just worried for him with his attitude like that, considering how Mrs. Luo was Mrs. Head Commissioner after all. Yet she told Dong Han that she was really touched by his words previously, even wanting to cry but she couldn’t. She also wanted to say those words to Mrs. Luo too but once again, because of her duties, she couldn’t. Yet what she didn’t want to do the most was to be Ah Gang’s partner so she begged him to never repeat that mistake again. She continued by saying how she knew he couldn’t respond at that point so she was really taking advantage of the opportunity to bully him a bit. After Zi Yan said goodbye, it was Yong Mei’s turn. She thanked him for saving her the last time. He seemed to have forgotten but responded with the typical answer that it was his job. She then said she didn’t know whether to thank him or scold him, considering how no one had ever spoken to her mother in such tones he’d used.
They soon arrived at the newspaper place and Dong Han did quick surveillance before leaving the girls to their work. Yet what Miao Miao ended up doing was teasing Yong Mei about the whole matter with Dong Han saving her as being “the hero saving the beauty”, causing Yong Mei to cover her mouth to shut her up so Dong Han and the others couldn’t overhear them. So Yong Mei and Jia Yuan finally met and it seemed like they got along quite well. And while that was going on, Xiao He was showing Chen Jie and Ah Gang in the secret headquarter with how he had tracked down Mr. Shen and his contacting one of Zhang Guo Tang’s henchmen. So coincidence or what?
After Miao Miao and Jia Yuan left the newspaper place, Yong Mei attempted to earn some points with her bodyguards by offering them juices. Dong Han turned her down initially but she went to prepare some anyway. Out of courtesy, Dong Han accepted one and thanked her. It wasn’t before long that he placed the glass back down at the table without taking even a sip. She soon returned after distributing the rest of the drinks to the other bodyguards–and talked some more with him. Her attempts to joke didn’t disarm the icicle on his face at all. (Seriously? Give up already, chick!) It wasn’t before long that he clarified that he wasn’t going against her mother on purpose. She said she understood yet he said no, she didn’t understand. He soon explained it to her and wanted her mother to understand what they were going through as officers. She said she knew her mother would understand, stating that her mother was the one who told her to prepare the juices for them. (Nice?)
Later, Miao Miao and Jia Yuan finally arrived at Xuan Xuan’s classroom in time to witness the kids singing. At first, Miao Miao was really just there to greet the cute kids and wanted to set a trap for Zi Hong. However, she soon realized that the kids were singing a song called “Remembering Homeland” (念故鄉), which was adapted from a famous song called “The New World” (新世界). (Sounds familiar? YUP, it’s the title of the drama.) After the song, Miao Miao accompanied Jia Yuan and Xuan Xuan. She even inquired more about the song. Xuan Xuan disclosed that it was Zi Hong who taught them of the song and told them about the background. Through Jia Yuan’s subtle threats, Xuan Xuan remembered some more of what Zi Hong had told them. Miao Miao remembered back to the time when Qing Ting’s mother told them about the song and the exact words. She finally put two and two together, vouching to go after Zi Hong to confront him.
While Miao Miao was still deciphering the puzzled, Zi Hong was seen visiting his mother, telling her that “that person” had returned already, meaning Zhang Guo Tang. He continued by saying that he’d been waiting for that day for a long time already. It seemed like a last visit. Because he had told her that he might not be able to see her anymore. However, he had left a letter for Jia Yuan. Jia Yuan would know who he was and would know who she was, and would bring Xuan Xuan there to visit her. He said that his mother wouldn’t recognize him, but might be able to recognize Xuan Xuan, because that was the Qing Ting that she knew.
The discovery with Mr. Shen meeting up with one of Zhang Guo Tang’s henchmen had resulted in this scene. The inevitable arrest. Or was it more like trying to get them to cooperate with providing information? Zi Hong couldn’t hide anymore. He had to protect his father and fend the officers off. Ah Gang received the first hit from Zi Hong, and then the other officers followed. Even when Mr. Shen interfered, it was no use. The damage was already done with Zi Hong fighting against the officers. The chaos was finally controlled after Zi Yan fired a shot to warn Zi Hong. It was then that they arrested both father and son. It was also then that Miao Miao jumped out and told them that they couldn’t do that and shouldn’t misunderstand the pair of father and son. She even used her connections to threaten Chen Jie. Yet that was what set Chen Jie off, stating that she shouldn’t put them into a difficult situation, considering how they were just doing their jobs.
So the interrogation began. Mr. Shen honestly provided the information with how he knew that one guy. They actually knew one another since little. When they grew up, Mr. Shen moved away. Yet he still kept in touch with the other party. Chen Jie and Zi Yan were the ones asking the questions. Yet Chen Jie was really aggressive, trying to pin the whole crime on Mr. Shen. Or more like he was using his fierce technique to make Mr. Shen sweat. It wasn’t working. Mr. Shen focused on Zi Hong, wanting the others to let Zi Hong go, considering how Zi Hong was just protecting him. Yet Chen Jie said that Zi Hong had assaulted some police officers so it was hard. Mr. Shen was willing to cooperate the best he could, but he wanted them to talk to Zi Hong first.
And indeed Miao Miao had used her connections to the max. She contacted her grandfather, who used to be a cop, and wanted him to get through Chief Zheng. Her reasoning made him tongue-tied hence he had to carry through with her request. So that led to this meeting with Chief Zheng. Miao Miao wasn’t so into threatening people anymore, considering how her grandpa was already setting up the meeting and Chief Zheng was right there. She didn’t want to waste any more time. She quickly showed him some proofs regarding Zi Hong’s real background and stated how both father and son were innocent. Miao Miao further said that the car accident of years ago might have been planned by Zhang Guo Tang so if Mr. Shen was part of the schemes, why would he adopt Zi Hong and raised him since then? She encouraged Chief Zheng to check Zi Hong’s background and would eventually understand why Zi Hong had assaulted the officers to protect Mr. Shen. So what would their next move be after they cleared up all the confusion?

The answer is no, she Zi Yan didn’t catch them. One of the thugs called up a guy named Tom to pick them both up. Although Zi Yan did call Xiao He to track the location, it was all in vain. Tom had arrived in time to aid his conspirators hence causing Zi Yan no choice but to stop. What would the others say now?
Chief Zheng was seen walking with Zi Yan and Chen Jie to the resident of the thugs. It appeared that a team had been called in to work on sweeping the scene to find possible evidence as well as interviewing the landlady and other possible witnesses. A man by the name of Scott Chen had registered at the resident, but no other information was known of their identities. Those thugs were really careful and had already gotten rid of possible evidence. According to Dong Han’s report, those thugs seemed to know what they were doing and could possibly know of the police’s operations. There wasn’t much to go on so the others head back to their secret headquarter.
Back in the control room, Zi Yan showed them how she had managed to retrieve some information while Xiao He was sleeping thus wanting to gamble regarding her previous journey. Zhao Ji Gang was impressed by Zi Yan’s abilities and even praised her before leaving the room. Chen Jie followed by apologizing to her for not believing her previously. However, he reminded her that she shouldn’t run off like that again, referencing regulations and whatnot. She said she understood. By this time, Xiao He seemed to have lost his ground, considering how his talent was scorching on the computers to find the correct solution. His face said it all, he was seriously offended, because both Ah Gang and Chen Jie had taken Zi Yan’s side. Although Zi Yan did apologize earlier (regarding how she’d sneaked onto his computers to check some information), he was still looking quite grim. So after Zi Yan left as well, Chen Jie had to be the one trying to get Xiao He to talk again. Xiao He’s only request at that point was for Chen Jie to tell Zi Yan to never touch his computers without permission again – to which Chen Jie hit his shoulder and left the room with a smile as well. Dong Han was also smiling. It seemed like the team was coming together at last.
Then Zi Yan and Dong Han had a talk in the break room. She thanked him for standing up for her with the guys earlier. However, she stated that she didn’t really care how they viewed her. She also went on to tell him not to do that in the future since she was capable of standing up for herself. He said he wasn’t, he only wanted to remind them and himself of the reason why they were chosen. She turned to him with a sweet smile, stating that regardless of the reason, she still wanted to thank him. After that, she walked out of the room with her cup in hand. He smiled before continuing with his chip munching task. Was this their beginning?
Elsewhere, Miao Miao and Yong Mei were discussing the happenings of these past days and the background of Zhang Guo Tang and Yong Mei’s grandfather’s disputes. Miao Miao finally understood some of the things she encountered previously. Yong Mei also took that time to convince Miao Miao not to investigate into the matter anymore, considering how the police were already on the case. Yong Mei further reasoned that since her family wasn’t allowed to do much for their own safety, Miao Miao would also be in danger if she muddled into the situation. However, Miao Miao wasn’t able to let go. She admitted it was curiosity at first. Yet, later on, she realized that the incident of years ago didn’t seem like an accident at all. She wanted to find out what happened to her friends and if Zhang Guo Tang was really responsible for it or if there were any other parties involved. Unable to persuade her otherwise, Yong Mei made Miao Miao promise to be careful.
Meanwhile, Zi Hong was seen walking out of his house and watching his father as the old man tried to remove some dust from his suit. Flashbacks finally confirmed that Zi Hong was indeed adopted by Shen You Fu and his wife (Huang Zi Yue) after the accident. Zi Hong didn’t care to acknowledge the couple as his new parents nor did he care to take on his new name. Yet Mrs. Shen wasn’t giving up, stating he was a kid after all and that he needed more time to accept them. They still took him to see his mother at the hospital from time to time. Days went by, he indeed was used to being part of their family. Although he wasn’t calling them “Mom” and “Dad” yet. It wasn’t until one rainy day Mrs. Shen slipped and fell that had drastically changed his new life again. He ended up comforting his father after Mrs. Shen passed away, even finally calling him “Daddy”. That indeed awakened the old man from his trance. That had given the old man some hope to go on. And they’d been father and son since then.
One of the men whom the others were talking about, an important figure, supposedly Zhang Guo Tang’s target finally appeared. Yes, he was Yong Mei’s maternal grandfather, Jiang Jian Ming (Yang Lie). He appeared to honor an employee, which was Zi Hong. Zi Hong sure made his father proud. Apparently, Shen You Fu was Jiang Jian Ming’s special assistant. Chairman Jiang only had praises for his assistant. Miao Miao was also seen at that event, taking pictures. She finally realized that Zi Hong was Mr. Shen’s son and he seemed to be hiding something. Considering how the interview halted abruptly the other night.
The next day at work, the others congratulated Zi Hong on his award. Jia Yuan even voiced out that Zi Hong should treat them all to a meal. After all the excitement subsided though, Zi Hong and Jia Yuan finally had a serious talk again. Jia Yuan confronted Zi Hong about beating that one guy up previously, stating that dude had a lot of friends so Zi Hong shouldn’t mess with them. Then she moved on to talked about her father’s situation and the debts he had incurred. She said that what she was doing, it was her own choice–and that no one was forcing her. She also disclosed that her only wish now was for her little brother to enter college. He, of course, didn’t look down on her. He stated that she was an awesome sister.
Zi Hong had no idea another confrontation was waiting for him around the corner. He only wanted to have lunch in peace. Yet Miao Miao wanted to uncover the truth. She stated how his father had lie about knowing Zhang Guo Tang. Zi Hong warned Miao Miao not to incriminate his father. She said she wouldn’t–unless the other party was really guilty. She continued on with how she’d lost three best friends and how their families had been torn apart by that so-called accident. She would get to the bottom of the situation regardless.
Back at the special headquarter, the team was discussing the latest developments and the information they were able to retrieve so far. Their meeting was interrupted by Xiao He rushing in to inform them that he’d found the vehicle that the thugs had used to escape. (It was the same vehicle that Zi Yan had called in previously, telling Xiao He to help her with identifying the car.) However, the bad news was the signal was already lost. They must have destroyed the car’s GPS already. All wasn’t lost since Dong Han had launched into an analysis that got everyone’s attention. He had revealed more information regarding one of the thugs he ran into that one time when he rescued Yong Mei. He said that guy had uttered a few words in Cantonese. Still, Zhang Guo Tang’s henchmen were still an unknown number. It was something they had to work at in deciphering and take caution.
That night at the Shen resident, Zi Hong told his father what Miao Miao had told him. Mr. Shen said he just didn’t want to talk about that incident anymore hence lying about not knowing Zhang Guo Tang. Mr. Shen then asked why Zi Hong didn’t tell Miao Miao that he was Qing Ting (蜻蜓 – dragonfly)? Zi Hong said that was ages ago, but Mr. Shen reminded Zi Hong how close Zi Hong was to the others. Mr. Shen went further by saying that Zi Hong still couldn’t let go of the incident that happened years ago, still trying to find the Zhang Guo Tang and the others to take revenge. He told Zi Hong to let all the hatred go or it would consume his life.
The next day, Miao Miao was tossed into a major obstacle when she spotted Zi Hong waiting for her in front of the newspaper place. Before this encounter, she had begged Yong Mei to talk to Chairman Jiang hence realizing that she’d gone in the wrong direction. Chairman Jiang had vouched for Mr. Shen and reassured Miao Miao and Yong Mei that there wasn’t anything wrong with Mr. Shen. So Miao Miao was dreading the minute that she had to apologize for being so fierce with Zi Hong during the previous confrontation. When she saw him at her workplace, she was more than reluctant to talk to him. Trying to turn on her charming smile to disarm his hostility, she didn’t care if it would work or not. She edged her way out of the situation. Actually, Zi Hong didn’t want to pick on her either. Their conversation soon steered toward seriousness after the initial awkwardness. She shared with him over tea of her childhood and her close friends. He listened intently and realized how much she’d enjoyed staying at his place when she was little, treating his mother like hers, considering how she didn’t have a mother and her father often worked late at that time. Her story spanned further into the future–after she left the old town and many years onward. He jumped in to say that he’d seen her collage and her articles about past memories. He soon asked her if the artistic/creative position was still available. He wanted to introduce someone to her for that position. He took her to a classroom where some kids were getting ready to sing. Miao Miao soon discovered that one of the kids looked exactly like Qing Ting, but it was impossible. Considering how Qing Ting would already be grown up by now. Soon, Miao Miao learned that the Qing Ting lookalike was Jia Yuan’s little brother, Li Xuan Fan, nicknamed Xuan Xuan. Zi Hong disclosed Jia Yuan’s goal of wanting to support her brother and hoping to earn enough to put away for his college education. Miao Miao didn’t know where that was leading but she listened on. It wasn’t long before Zi Hong asked her a favor, wanting her to give Jia Yuan a chance. Miao Miao said she had already agreed to help. Zi Hong soon clarified that she wasn’t helping since Jia Yuan didn’t want pity, but a chance to prove her capabilities. It seemed like Miao Miao was seeing Zi Hong in a different light, even if she jokingly taunted him while getting out of the car later on.
So while the other two were talking, Jia Yuan finally convinced her brother to head home after some side teasing. Jia Yuan checked the mail before heading upstairs to their resident. She found a strange envelope among the mails. Her brother asked her if it was from the same person. She studied the envelope and mumbled something about it was the same each month, only giving money yet didn’t leave any names or addresses. Her brother wondered if it was from their father. Yet Jia Yuan disagreed. She said it must be from Santa Claus, lol. That had sparked some laughter from the kid. And so they headed upstairs. That wasn’t the only mystery, because Miao Miao was seen pulling an all-nighter of her own, trying to figure out the connection between Qing Ting and Xuan Xuan–and why they looked alike.
The next day arrived with a mixture of good and bad news. The good news was that Chairman Jiang gained another powerful title. The bad news was, someone was out to get him. Fortunately for him, he survived. His assistant was the one who was shot. The result? Jiang Ming Yue (Mrs. Luo) launched into a scolding marathon, yelling at the entire special team for their incompetent. She stressed that she rather hire some outside bodyguards than seek their help any longer. Well, she was indeed her father’s daughter after all since after she was done (sort of), Chairman Jiang spoke up to remind Chief Zheng of his duties, which was to seek out Zhang Guo Tang’s whereabouts. Chief Zheng understood. He said that their other responsibility was to protect the Jiang/Luo families. Yet Mrs. Luo jumped in again, yelling out that she didn’t need them. However, her father soon interfered, telling her not to joke about it. Chief Zheng promised to be on high alert from now on and protect them all. The head commissioner spoke up at last, stating that they should trust Chief Zheng and his special team, not making it difficult for them. He then stepped toward Chief Zheng and said that their safety were in the team’s hands. Chairman Jiang told them that they shouldn’t act scared and should operate normally, not letting Zhang Guo Tang get the satisfaction of affecting their livelihood. (He was mostly advising his family at this point, not necessarily giving orders to the special team.) He soon left after that. Chief Zheng then reported to Mrs. Luo that from now on, Dong Han and Zi Yan were in charge of protecting Yong Mei. Mrs. Luo ignored him and left with her daughter. The head commissioner turned to Chief Zheng and apologized on his wife’s behalf, saying that his wife was just worried. Chief Zheng understood too well.
So after the head commissioner left as well, Chief Zheng told the others it was a major embarrassment to them regarding the latest incident. That meant they shouldn’t make that same mistake ever again. And while they were getting scolded, Xiao He and Ah Gang were outside at the parking lot, installing some gadgets into Chairman Jiang’s car. After they left, Mr. Shen called Zi Hong up, wanting to reassure Zi Hong that everything was fine. Yet Zi Hong was confused, considering how he was stuck in the factory the whole time, not even having a clue regarding the incident that just occurred. Yet what caught his attention was the news regarding Zhang Guo Tang. Zhang Guo Tang was indeed back. The day Zi Hong was waiting had finally arrived. What would his next move be? He called Miao Miao and requested a meeting that night. He would be bringing Jia Yuan over to meet her. He said that he would be busy the upcoming days so it was the only time. Miao Miao jokingly teased him yet agreed in the end. She was looking forward to it. Yet Zi Hong’s expression showed definite intensity, because of the situation he was now in.
