Throwback Thursday: Jacky’s Love For Oldies

Years ago when Jacky was on The Million Singers (百萬大歌星), someone claimed that he was very lucky to have stayed on for that long, considering how some of the songs he chose were very hard. I had believed that person because from Jacky’s expression, it indeed seemed like he had several close calls on there.

However, years later and his later visits to the show, I realized that was a wrong assumption to make from that person. Mostly because Jacky was known to be more familiar with oldies than newer songs. It had a lot to do with his mother’s love for oldies that had influenced his route. Harlem Yu had also chided him for opting for the new song (among the choices) when he was kicked off that one time, saying he shouldn’t have forced himself to pick newer songs.

Oneness to Boda

One of Reflections’ sweetheart, Qiao Qiao, has switched agency. No wait, correct that. Oneness Music Entertainment has changed its name to Boda Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Click on the Oneness link to look for one of the announcements regarding the change.) I just realized this like yesterday because I was browsing around and wondering why Oneness hasn’t updated their activities for a while and one of Sweety’s fan pages forwarded some pictures of Qiao Qiao via Boda so I checked out the page. I thought she changed agency but it was just that Oneness had changed their name. It had been a while now but I was so busy with other stuff and absentminded (yeah) that I didn’t realize it.

Who else is in Boda as of now? Go here to see all. I like the three glossy profile photos they had for Qiao Qiao though. (Go here, here, and here if you don’t want to scroll down.) One thing that puzzles me the most is what happened to some of the others that were in Oneness previously? Or their contracts expired so they left? Or something else? Especially Jacky, who was in Oneness with Joanne previously. He’s actually focusing on the whole singing front right now so isn’t around much at this point regarding TV dramas. However, what will happen in the future? (Yes, I’m sort of hoping they would still be in the same agency.)

Aside from that, Qiao Qiao’s currently working on her new project called Our Love (爱的创可贴). Not long ago, she also returned to Taiwan and attended Justine Ji’s wedding along with Chen Yi and other mutual friends. Though she wasn’t just attending as a guest but as a bridesmaid. (Interestingly she was asked about her own situation and the reply had led others to ponder if Calvin had been there, he could have proposed? Nice?)

Justine Ji’s Debut Album

To say that this was one of my most anticipated albums this year was not even exaggerating. It was true since I’d been impressed with Justine since watching her on this one competition show. I liked her mystical voice. It was also as clear as water–or almost.

Anyway, What I really liked about this album was its artistic side. There were varieties and styles with the songs and also the artistic oozing into the pictures itself.

I seriously believe people who focus on the artistic side are more serious toward what they’re doing. In this case, it is music.

Recommended? You have to listen for yourself to decide. My personal favorite right now is track #2 but will pay attention more to the other songs later since I’ve already sync-ed it into my mp3 player.

Hong Ju Zi Artists: Updates

Okay, so I was so lazy about updating some of them that I think I need to do something about it. I am not sure with some of them BUT I’ll update on the ones I know about.

Chen Yi (I know he’s not with Tangerine anymore BUT just want to put it here anyway) and his band-mate, Kris Shen, are currently promoting their latest album, WOW–and should be seen on various shows and/or at various events.

Jacky’s activeness on a certain singing competition show has ended, but he’s seen around on Season 2 to be supporting his brother, James. (I still DO NOT want to talk about it. I seriously agreed with the result and who the winner was for the last season, BUT still feel like something was fishy, like someone was playing us big time with the build of the hype.)

Our little fish and Mr. Tang Feng are currently promoting their latest project–Rookies’ Diary (新兵日記). Another military-related one for Tang Feng and some similar cast from Our Island, Our Dreams, but hopefully, it would receive a better reception from the viewers.

Makiyo was seen on various shows–games and talk shows. She was also on a certain singing competition show twice–trying to help, BUT it failed–unfortunately. (Yes, that same one that I still DO NOT want to talk about.)

Sweety related stuff–Esther’s currently continuing her studies in Shanghai (if you haven’t caught up on it yet). As for Miss Tseng, she has been absent from the ET community for a while, but is back and is supposedly filming a Mainland drama right now, which is considered somewhat like Meet the Parents but there hasn’t been much news of it. Hopefully, it is still going on.

NO idea what the rest of the people are doing OR if they are still with Tangerine since the company’s website is still down.

Networking with Celebs

With the growing trends of celebrities having their own blogs or other networking methods to stay in touch with fans or share their thoughts with the general public, there is also the downside of encountering false pages. However, based on information collected on various sites and my own searching, I’ve actually found some that are trustworthy over the years and would like to share them with everyone.

A New Start

The year’s just starting but it seems like some major decisions have been made by several artists–both popular ones and not-so-well-known ones. All the same, we will have to wait and see what those decisions will lead those artists to. Of course, there are other changes that could not be avoided but those involved will have to make the best of it nonetheless.

First off, Sweety fans will be happy to know that the band has reunited and even appeared on The Million Singers together on the December 26th’s show. (That is if you haven’t watched or noticed it yet.) Moreover, Esther  Liu seems to be back in Taiwan and is more actively involved having appeared on various variety shows to promote her book called Pari, Le temps qui compte to which the book only shows a sophisticated picture of her with a nice backdrop–not slapping on the impression of releasing a book just for the sake of showing off beautiful pictures. Whether a coincidence or not, Esther’s Mainland drama, Strange Tales of Liao Zhai 2–her second collaboration with Eddie Peng, has been released on DVD recently though it was several years ago that she filmed that. Meanwhile, Joanne’s Love Buffet should resume filming soon since it has been delayed due to the weather conditions last year. It has also caused the delay of the airing date, which was supposedly the end of last year.

Secondly, the talks of several J-Stars artists leaving the agency finally came through since Ehlo Huang was said to have not renewed his contract with the agency while Ming Dao finally made his decision recently to leave as well. Ming Dao has been establishing himself in many dramas already, so he won’t have any trouble pursuing his career. On the other hand, Ehlo has been well-received (though not enough recognition or opportunities), hopefully, he will have more opportunities in the future. All of these also means that it is now undeniable that 183 Club is officially over. (Though it still might not be for some avid fans who have followed them since the very first days.) What will Sam Wang do? He still has 5566 so that’s not a loss for him at all, considering how he’s also concentrating on his business. He’s too hardworking at times anyway. It might be less of a burden on him.

Thirdly, Jacky Chu announced on his blog in mid-December of last year in regard to his appearance on Golden Melodies’ Super Stars (金曲超級星), which fans excitedly waited for the event to unfold and even showed their support when the segments finally aired. A close call in the first round almost cost him a loss because of a brief freeze (possibly due to nerves), causing him to forget his lyrics just for a few seconds. He immediately recovered and sang on, earning some points from the judges thus they resurrected him. Last weekend’s performance, he appeared alongside his brother, James Chu, once again and sang “You’ve Always Been Here” (你一直都在) together. It was indeed another touching performance by the Chu siblings. Indeed, he had pulled himself together once again and had not disappointed the judges thus receiving a 91% overall score.

Another surprising turn–to those who have not paid attention or heard of it before–is his fellow Tangerine colleague, Justine Ji Wen Hui, also appeared on the show and has been well received by the audience and judges alike, allowing her to pass numerous times. Justine earned a 91% overall score like Jacky. In fact, they were the only two who scored the highest last weekend for their performances. Some of their friends are also on it and are quite impressive as well.

While all these are going on, let’s hope the best for all with their careers moving forward for the better. (Best wishes to the other artists as well, not just those who were listed above.)
