Year 2015 in Recap

year_review

Oh joy, I’m bringing this back since it’s another year of madness. How did it go? Let’s check the number first, lol. Yes, before I start bragging and realized it wasn’t worth bragging over, lol. But before I actually go into the stats, I would like to thank The New World and iHero for making some of the impossibles happen. Because if it wasn’t for the dramas, I wouldn’t have updated so much or kept it so consistent for the better half of the year. Also, anyone wanting to check out the stat report from WordPress, click here.

Total Posts in 2015: 365 (35% of all time). Yes, I took a challenge of trying to keep up posts for 365 days SO had to brag here. It wasn’t easy and some posts were less impressing than others. However, I think it was already tough that I managed it all year long. For this year, will I be continuing on this pattern? I want to but I would say no. Since quality trumps quantity so I’ll still be updating, still be my random self at times, but I won’t force it as an everyday thing. If it happens, it happens. Now, moving on to the breakdown of different categories.

Times Updated on People on the Poll
: 284 (78% of overall). I took out Ady and Hu Ge early on so I didn’t feel like I needed to include them in this section. Anyway, because I did the 365-day challenge, everyone benefited–one way or another. However, Achel had a surge, leaving Jun Ya behind with only 22 posts, because Wallace, Joanne, Bianca, and Jacky ended up having more posts than him for the year. That knocked him off top 5 for the year yet didn’t damage his overall record too much. Talking about that, he was the reason why I held off so long of not publishing this post since I needed to calculate some of the posts again. Yet I decided to gamble and take out some and possibly double back next year to correct it all. Oh yeah, I didn’t count general updates for some people, especially those with higher numbers already.
Wallace Huo: 26 (9% of the year)
Janine Chang: 16 (6%)
Vic Chou: 12 (4%)
Joanne Zeng: 25 (9%)
Nicholas Teo: 18 (6%)
Xiu Jie Kai: 12 (4%)
Angela Chang: 12 (4%)
Zhao Jun Ya: 22 (8%)
Yvonne Yao: 7 (2%)
Penny Lin: 16 (6%)
Achel Chang/ Zhang Xin Yu: 34 (12%)
Sophia Chou: 6 (2%)
Ruby Lin: 16 (6%)
Van Fan: 9 (3%)
Eric Suen: 5 (2%)
Bianca Bai: 25 (9%)
Jacky Chu: 23 (8%)

Books Reviews:

Music Reviews:

Movies + TV Series Reviews/Episode Summaries: I will say that I was both proud and also a bit ashamed, because I was cheating for several dramas by inserting placeholders. I was trying to motivate myself to watch faster and/or fill the spaces yet things got in the way and I fell behind once again.

Fan Fiction:

Songs Translations: I think that it was too obvious that it was a Phil Chang year for me. Yes, I love that guy. Okay, mostly his songs, lol. But he is funny. Getting back to this, totally outdone myself on some levels. Overall, I translated 51 songs. OMG, that’s like major achievement for me in this area. The previous year, I only did 12, but that was because I didn’t really take it as a challenge. I think this number will drop the upcoming year since I won’t be forcing myself to update every day.

Chinese: 46

Vietnamese: 5

Side Updates: 130 posts – My randomness seriously has gone way past normal. I didn’t count some of the side stuffs. But The New World and iHero obviously dominated the scene for the beginning of the year.

For this year, I hope to bring out more quality posts, like I said earlier. I also hope to finish up the placeholder posts that I haven’t previously. Wish me luck and see you all next year!

Yuan Shan Shan: Courageous Angel

I stumbled upon this article weeks ago but didn’t post it until now. It makes me love her even more, even if that’s possible. Yes, I used ‘love’–while there are fuming hatred surrounding her just because she got promoted by the troll. Anyway, basically, the article mentioned how she used all the criticisms and bashing against her for a greater cause. Instead of wallowing in self-pity or lashing out directly at others for harming her just because she was pursuing her dream (like many other celebrities had done in the past), she decided to use it for a charity cause. Whenever someone published an article criticizing her, she would donate a certain amount toward for a charity cause. With the amount of criticisms and bashing she received, it was more than enough to pay for a little kid’s operation expenses. Impressive? I think that’s real courage and motivation for others. Not only did she turn the situation around, but had allowed herself to take actions to help others.

She was invited to this one event and delivered a speech about cyber-bullying. She had not only encouraged her fellow colleagues on, but also others whom had went through similar situations, telling them to rise up and stay strong, because they would get through it. After her speech was published online, many people had cheered her on–and some anti-fans had also switched sides and supported her. Some might still be in doubt and think that she’s using these situations as publicity stunts by doing charity work (yeah, I saw those comments). But seriously? Many people in the same industry or any types of public figure just continued to play the victim and strike back at those criticisms, but would use the media to their advantage when wanting to do promotions. So I’m just impressed with the different approach that Mabel had chosen. She had channeled the negative energy circulating to a positive, meaningful one. I’m not saying that we should give her an award for this or something since others before her had gotten over it, but they had a long interval of whining and crying too. I’m just saying that she deserves some major respect for what she’d done. And she will continue to strive on with that same positive attitude.

Her courage had also got me thinking. I’m going to try and be more brave from now on, actually admitting that I like a certain star or another, instead of cowardly hiding because those stars were often attacked–like Mabel–for whatever reasons. It doesn’t mean that I would end up bashing the ones I don’t like either. Well, I will rate according to performances in my reviews–like I always do, but won’t dedicate some posts just to bash them. That would go against what was mentioned in this topic. I’m just saying I won’t hide about liking or sharing about those I like. Because after all, I’m trying to stay positive as much as possible on this blog and share what I like on here. Of course I’m only vouching regarding the relevancy of this blog and keeping my personal matters out. That’s why I don’t want to mention that bit, but it is really something to consider.

Empowering Banners Collection

yss_banner

Yes, you saw it right. Mabel Yuan Shan Shan is on the banner. While half of the population are out there hating on her–for whatever reasons, I’m one of those that actually like her. I will say that I haven’t even watched enough dramas OR anything to form an opinion or go after her on that front. But I quite like her off-screen presence thus far. Reading some articles and watching some shows, I think she has an awesome attitude toward life and is quite hardworking. Regardless of the troll backing her up with some drama projects I don’t care for, I still think she’s quite capable of working on her own–and that shouldn’t be held against her. Not to mention those repeated roles won’t help her grow at all. I like her recent works more, plus it would be a bonus if it steers clear of that particular troll. I also choose to focus on the goods.

So, in the future, there will be more banners of hardworking artists that I really admire. I started with Mabel because I always wanted to do some kind of layout using this set of pictures she shot awhile back. It’s just a coincident that I finally decided to do such a collection.

Possible future banners will include the following:

  • Dou Hua Mei – Cai Huang Ru – Yes, she has been on the banner for several months now–whether it was regarding one drama or another. But I quite like her–both acting-wise and off-screen presence.
  • Janine Chang – Just so graceful and awesome on many levels.
  • Sweety – Joanne and Esther – I want to place them in together like once upon a time just for kicks, lol.
  • Angela Chang – Yes, another hardworking person deserving the spot.
  • Sophia Chou – Yes, I want to make up for all the times I didn’t update on her, lol.
  • Penny Lin – Yes, I’m back with obsessing over Penny so why not?
  • Cecilia Han Xue – Why not?

And so, so sorry to those who are already married or taken. Because I admire the ones working on their own and surviving the world without caving into the public’s pressure more. NOT that I want to discredit those who are married or taken for their hardworking attitude, but seriously, they have their significant other to weep over stuffs. (And I do congratulate those whom had found their true love already, but they have a support team.)

Will I include the guys in the future? Possible. Because I think I’ve been focusing on the guys too much on the blog so I want to restore the balance a bit, lol. And yes, I do feel guilty for running after the guys all the time with dramas and all.

Here are list of possible candidates:

  • Nicholas Teo – Epic music always. Totally down to earth on many levels
  • Ehlo Huang – Yes, I need to place him in.
  • Zhao Jun Ya – I miss him! Yes, on the banner. So this will be a good excuse to put him back on there, lol.
  • Wallace Chung – Yes, I like him ages back, before the whole craze with those adaptations of novels or whatever of recent years. So why not, right?
  • Ken Chang – How could I forget him?

And also like the girls, I won’t put in the ones who are married or taken. So sorry, Vic Chou! But I wish I could make an exception.

I want to also add, the less scandals surrounding them, the better. So some I might like on another front but might not place in for that reason. NOT because I want to follow the illusion of wanting everyone to be perfect. I’m just so tired of some people’s rumors instead of seeing their works.

*EDIT*: I had to take some people out and shuffle around since I abandoned this project awhile back but might be returning to it in the future.
