Xiao Qiao’s Wedding

Last weekend was actually Xiao Qiao’s wedding. I previously saw pictures but was confused since aside from her pictures, others didn’t post anything. I thought I misunderstood or it was for a show. But then last weekend’s updates clarified everything and it was very exciting.

The majority of the J-Star family came to support and celebrate with her. In fact, the other members of the 7 Flowers were her bridesmaids. The best men were Johnny Yan and Sam Wang from 183 Club and GINO from K-One. From other pictures, there were other pairings as well.

Of course, there were also other non-J-Star members who came.

Liang Zhe was seen next to Ehlo at the reception.

Jun Ya, Derek Chen, and Ada Pan posed together at one point.

My favorite one must be of Doris and Sam, lol. Because she said the “before picture” was closer to their real life selves. She paired with Sam so Johnny and Jade were paired together (just like some past events).

Anyway, it was a huge event yet was also heartwarming in many ways and brought back memories for those previously following J-Star events. And I only posted up some pictures from the people I do follow so I don’t know the rest of the details. Also, some people I follow didn’t post up pictures so I wasn’t sure if they were there or not.

Give Me A Taiwanese Boyband To Idolize

(Credit: itsJPMofficial)

This topic came forward because of how I had this conversation with Vanadia about the recently popular boyband “Super 131”. She was saying how they seemed to have drop off the radar or disband or possibly just moved on to other things. She was really getting unease with not having a boyband to chase after. She wants me to give her a band? I’ll not only give her one but many more to think over! In an attempt to bring forth the right atmosphere to discuss this topic, I decided to use JPM’s catchy song “365 Days” to emphasize my point. (Go here for lyrics translation.) Anyway, without further ado, here are the Taiwanese boybands worth mentioning:

First off?

Mayday (五月天). Probably one of the longest formed band and still active to this day. Ah Xin’s really talented with his songwriting and I really love his style. Although ironically, I like it more when Ah Xin wrote songs for other singers, lol. But I must admit, they’re a strong band. With all the awards and recognitions they received, I don’t think they need me to praise them, lol. So yeah, they’re one of the coolest bands around.

F4/JVKV. Although they have sort of scattered in the previous years to do their own thing, but they still haven’t officially disbanded yet. Their last performance together was in 2013 for the Spring Festival. Who knows? Maybe they will get together again to bring out another album, if not another round of performances.

5566. They’re still around. Even if they are not as active together. They’re actually quite strong during their more active years so they still have a solid fanbase regardless.

Chemical Monkey. I will say that I’m not really a big fan of them, because I have my weird moments, lol. But I think that they’re a genuine, artistic band. Indeed very talented in their own way.

SpeXial. The 10 male members band. YES, there are ten members in this band. All male. What’s amazing about them is the ability to harmonize so well. You could get addicted to them with listening to just one song. They bring a refreshing feeling to the pop genre. (And yes, there are two members missing from the picture, because they’re busy right now so can’t join in with the recent album.)

831 (八三夭). Another band that brings forth a refreshing feeling to their music. I especially love their “Why I Cried” song. They lean toward the rock and roll path more than the usual pop so it might take getting used to. But they have their own uniqueness.

io Band (io樂團). Rock band. They sure have style. If you like rock, it’s a must check out.

Gentleman. Their name tripped me since it’s more than one person so it should be “Gentlemen”. But other than that, I guess I’ll live, lol. Seriously though, they could be fun to listen to.

MIXION. Max and Steven. Looks and voice. Nice? They do have some fun songs as well.

Last but not least?

JPM. Yup, I saved them last on purpose. I will tell you that I’m already past the age that I could listen to loud music and enjoy it. LOL! But JPM’s one of those bands that I could enjoy both heartwarming songs and at times, like the song at the beginning of this post–upbeat, uplifting, energetic ones. I will also say that I wasn’t into their previous bands that much, mostly because of the amount of bands within the industry so it was SO hard to keep up. But what got me into listening to them was none other than the drama I had followed for several months and fell in love with, True Love 365. If you want to get a sample, you could go hunt them down on YouTube (i.e. click on the credit and it should take you to their official channel) or check out my review of their 2nd album.

Okay, SO not all of them are eye candies, considering some of the new bands. But they make up in talents and variety. Some of the coolest bands out there aren’t considered all that ‘hot’ either, but are known for their music.

Sweety: Keep Fighting

(Credit: ForwardMusic 豐華唱片)

Found this nice article of Sweety, how they got started and their careers up till now so sharing.

A New Start

The year’s just starting but it seems like some major decisions have been made by several artists–both popular ones and not so well known ones. All the same, we will have to wait and see what those decisions will lead those artists to. Of course there are other changes that could not be avoided but those involved will have to make the best of it nonetheless.

First off, Sweety fans will be happy to know that the band has reunited and even appeared on Bai Wan Da Ge Xing together on the December 26th’s show. (That is if you haven’t watched or noticed it yet.) Moreover, Esther  Liu seems to be back in Taiwan and is more actively involved having appeared on various variety shows to promote her book called Pari, Le temps qui compte to which the book only shows a sophisticated picture of her with a nice backdrop–not slapping on the impression of releasing a book just for the sake of showing off beautiful pictures. Whether a coincidence or not, Esther’s Mainland drama, Strange Tales of Liao Zhai 2–her second collaboration with Eddie Peng, has been released on DVD recently though it was several years ago that she filmed that. Meanwhile, Joanne’s Love Buffet should resume filming soon since it has been delayed due to the weather conditions last year. It has also caused the delay of the airing date, which was supposedly the end of last year.

Secondly, the talks of several J-Stars artists leaving the agency finally came through since Ehlo Huang was said to have not renewed his contract with the agency while Ming Dao finally made his decision recently to leave as well. Ming Dao has been establishing himself in many dramas already, so he won’t have any trouble pursuing his career. On the other hand, Ehlo has been well received (though not enough recognition or opportunities), hopefully he will have more opportunities in the future. All of these also means that it is now undeniable that 183 Club is officially over. (Though it still might not be for some avid fans who have followed them since the very first days.) What will Sam Wang do? He still has 5566 so that’s not a lost for him at all, considering how he’s also concentrating on his business. He’s too hardworking at times anyway. It might be less of a burden on him.

Thirdly, Jacky Chu announced on his blog in mid-December of last year in regard to his appearance on Golden Melodies’ Super Stars (金曲超級星), which fans excitedly waited for the event to unfold and even showed their support when the segments finally aired. A close call in the first round almost cost him a lost because of a brief freeze (possibly due to nerves), causing him to forget his lyrics just for a few seconds. He immediately recovered and sang on, earning some points from the judges thus they resurrected him. Last weekend’s performance, he appeared alongside his brother, James Chu, once again and sang “You’ve Always Been Here” (你一直都在) together. It was indeed another touching performance by the Chu siblings. Indeed, he had pulled himself together once again and had not disappointed the judges thus receiving a 91% overall score.

Another surprising turn–to those who have not paid attention or heard of it before–is his fellow Tangerine colleague, Justine Ji Wen Hui, also appeared on the show and has been well received by the audience and judges alike, allowing her to pass numerous times. Justine earned a 91% overall score like Jacky. In fact, they were the only two whom scored the highest last weekend for their performances. Some of their friends are also on it and are quite impressive as well.

While all these are going on, let’s hope the best for all with their careers moving forward for the better. (Best wishes to the other artists as well, not just those who were listed above.)
